POSITION OF BURSAR -- POST NUMBER 0015
Applications are invited from suitably qualified Lesotho nationals for the post of Bursar of the National University of Lesotho (NUL). Under the NUL Act 1992 (as amended), the Bursar is one of the key senior officials of the National University of Lesotho reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor and to Council. The Bursar leads the Finance Team in managing the University’s financial and accounting policies, tax and regulatory requirements, payroll systems and processes, and the University’s internal controls.
Key Performance Areas
- Provides and develops Finance and Accounting team goals that are fully aligned with the University’s goals;
- Provides coaching, guidance and support, assists Finance and Accounting team members to reach their full potential through the performance management process;
- Oversees and ensures that the University’s financial records are maintained according to the law, policies and procedures laid down and also in line with international accounting standards;
- Prepares the annual budget timeously for Council approval
- Provides accurate financial and management reports to the University and all its cooperating partners;
- Ensures efficient cash management function of the University timeously;
- Oversees and manages the payroll function ensuring efficient systems, processes and controls;
- Oversees and efficiently manages the University’s insurance and risk management portfolio;
- Prepares and submits accounts for audit timeously.
- Keeps and constantly updates the university asset register
- Costs the programmes and courses to determine their individual values.
Minimum Requirements:
A Master’s Degree in accounting or
A Bachelor’s degree in accounting together with a professional accounting qualification (i.e. Chartered Accountancy) or equivalent.

Experience:
The candidate must have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience at management level.
Relevant work experience attained from an institution of Higher Learning will be an added advantage
Remuneration Package:
NUL offers a highly competitive remuneration package on a four year performance based-contract.
