The Centre for Film and Media Studies offers a lectureship in the area of television studies to strengthen its major in Film and Television Studies and its postgraduate studies and research in this area. Experience and interest in Screenwriting would also be desirable.

Requirements:
  • A PhD, either completed or in progress, would normally be required, but holders of an MA with significant academic publications and tertiary teaching experience may be considered.
  • Active research interests as evidenced by conference attendance and/or publications and/or creative output.
The following will be advantageous
  • Knowledge of South African and African television.
  • Ability to contribute to the Screenwriting production stream and to postgraduate studies in screenwriting and documentary arts.
  • Experience in teaching academic courses in television studies to large and small groups and in supervision of research projects.
 Responsibilities:
  • The successful candidate would be required to take a major part in curriculum planning and teaching in the area of Television Studies, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • The successful candidate would be expected to produce academic research and publish in this area.
  • Ideally, the candidate would also participate in one or more of the production oriented programmes in the Centre, particularly in the Screenwriting stream.
The annual cost of employment for 2014, including benefits is R 484 656.
