Head of Project
WELHUNGERHILFE seeks to employ a duly qualified and experienced professional in response to planned extension of activities in Malawi in the area of hygiene and nutrition education and therefore invites applications for the position of a Head of Project (m/f) Participatory Hygiene and nutrition Education
Will be based in Lilongwe but required to travel to Salima and/or Dedza districts on a weekly basis, It is a part time position limited to 40-50% of full time equivalent
Duration 01/07 or 01/08/2015-30/10/2017 depending on signing file contract with the donor
The Head of Project is responsible for the coordination, planning and implementation of the Welthungerhilfe project, in accordance with the framework specified as regards organisation, content, financing and timescales
The focus of this GIZ-financed project in the area of nutrition security lies in promotion of the hygiene and nutrition education, Within the framework of the project, training and educational measures will take place. Welthungerhilfe will cooperate closely with existing relevant structures on national and district level
Lead and be fully responsible and accountable for the project according to the donor contract and Welthungerhilfe’s standards for the implementation of projects, Coordinate day to day management across the Project Team, this includes joint planning, implementation and monitoring to meet expected outputs and outcomes, Representing Welthungerhilfe and coordination of the project concept and planned project activities with local decision makers and other aid and development organisations working in the project area, Ensuring adequate financial and material resources planning, management and budget and quality controlling in accordance with the current standards of Welthungerhilfe and GIZ, Responsibility for recruitment, management, supervision and guidance of national project staff, Continuous conceptual development and consolidation of the project outcomes, Regular reporting to the Country Office and Head Office in Germany (in German), Ensuring the
necessary flow of information and public transparency and public relations of Welthungerhilfe and the programme in the country, Identification, assessment and development of new programme and project ideas, including concept note and proposal development, Ensure timely preparation or project accounts and financial reports line with Welthungerhilfe standards and donor regulation, Ensure accountability of all funds received for project implementation, Approve project purchases according to the approved procurement budget and inventory control, Prepare status reports according to the approved procurement budget and inventory control, Prepare status reports according to Welthungerhilfe standards or the rules of donors, work with various stakeholders ensuring good communications and an enabling environment for the project to operate in, Coordinate all project interventions internally and externally

A University master or Comparable Degree, preferably in the field of rural Development, Agricultural Science, Geography and/or Food Security and/or Nutrition, at least 5 yrs of proven project ad management experience and responsibility as team leader in the implementation of co-financed projects of international (aid) agencies – preferably in the region, Practical experience in planning and evaluation methods, Coordination and organisational skills, including ability to work under high workload, Cooperation skills and ability to work in a team, Very good command of German and English, both spoken and written, Be aware that the reporting language and financial management and controlling has to be conducted in German, Valid international passport and drivers licence, Welthungerhilfe is an equal opportunity employer therefore women are encouraged to apply, We offer you the opportunity of working in an extremely committed team, and a range of duties
