Qualitative Researcher

Dignitas International (DI) is a medical and research organisation dedicated to transforming patient health and health care systems for the most vulnerable people 

DI works with patients, health care workers, researchers and policymakers to treat patients, mentor medical staff and develop the knowledge base of researchers and govt to catalyse change in local health practice and policy.  The DI Malawi team of 175+ staff works primarily in the six districts of the South East Zone with the main office located in Zomba.  DI is seeking to recruit a highly motivated person for the following position 

Qualitative Researcher -1 

This person is responsible for overseeing and coordinating qualitative research.  This person will be based in Zomba to sport the DI Research Dept where he/she will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of qualitative studies and contributing to dissemination, knowledge translation and policy recommendations 

The Qualitative Researcher will initially focus on the National Evaluation of the Malawi PMTCT Program (NEMAPP) study and a longitudinal qualitative assessment to identify the successes and challengers of implement the integrated PMTCTT/ATRT approach from the perspective of implementers, beneficiaries and community members 

Contribute to developing study protocols, protocols and data collection tools, Coordinate collection and analysis of research data, Implement quality control for the qualitative studies, Contribute to publications and conference presentations

Minimum Masters or PHD in Anthropology, Social Sciences, or a related discipline, Minimum  5 yrs of proven experience in leading qualitative research projects, preferably in the context of HIV and PMTCT research in Malawi, Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Chichewa, Demonstrated ability in the use of a range of qualitative data collection methods including in-depth interviewing and participatory observation, Demonstrated ability to present study findings clearly in peer-reviewed publications and international presentations, Excellent proficiency with MS Office, Endnote, and qualitative analyses package NVivo-10,  Experience in study planning, grant management, project budgeting an donor reporting in a range of formats 

This is a full time position on one yr contract with possibility of extension.  The suggested start date is September 1st 2015, Salary will commensurate with skills and experience, with a medical and health benefits package and 4 weeks of vacation
