Senior Lab Technician

DI works with patients, health care workers, researchers and policymakers to treat patients, mentor medical staff and develop the knowledge base of researchers and govt to catalyse change in local health practice and policy. The DI Malawi team of 150+ staff works primarily in the South East Zone with the main office located in Zomba
With support from the UK’s Medical Research Council, DI has partnered with the London School of Hygeine and Tropical Medicine and the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome (MLW) Trust to conduct a clinical trial titled: Rapid Urine-Based Screening for Tuberculosis to Reduce AIS-Related Mortality in Hospitalised Patients in Africa (STAMP trial). The study will take place at Zomba Central Hospital as well as Edendale, South Africa. The overarching aim of this work is to determine whether the use of a fundamentally new approach to rapid diagnostic screening for HIV-associated tuberculosis (TB) using novel, high-sensitivity urine-based testing reduces mortality among HIV-infected patients requiring admissions to medical wards
DI is therefore seeking to recruit highly motivated person for the following position
Senior Lab Technician – Dignitas International – Zomba
Strong communication representation and negotiation skills with excellent spoken and written English, Excellent team leadership, team-working and relationship building skills with the ability to develop positive working relations across functions and cultures, Qualified Lab Technician with Diploma in Laboratory Technology with at least 2-3 yrs working in research
Other duties as necessary and/or requested by the STAMP Study Physician and the Site-PI, Run quality controls, validation testing and participate in external quality assurance testing quality assurance procedures, Responsible for laboratory study supply inventory forecasting and tracking systems, Maintain and care for laboratory equipment and conduct equipment calibration, Establish and track STAMP trial quality laboratory indicators, Record all laboratory results and report clearly to the clinical study team, Collect and run study tests in the laboratory which may include: Sputum and urine Gene Xpert MTB/RIF assays, determine TB/LAM, CD4 count, haemoglobin, C-reactive protein (CRP) and serum save, Responsible for the development and implementation of all laboratory site standard operating procedures in conjunction with the study-site Principal Investigator and Study Physician
