Nutrition and Food Security Advisor
The embassy of Ireland in Lilongwe has responsibility for managing Ireland’s bilateral relations hip with Malawi
In Malawi and globally, the Irish govt in it development programmes, has a strong focus on hunger and under-nutrition. In Malawi, the Embassy of Ireland provides support to the Malawian govt and Civil Society organisations for a number of programmes addressing the country’s food security challenge
The embassy is in the process of developing a country support programmes for the period 2016-2020 and invites applications for the position of Nutrition and Food Security Advisor to join the embassy team for the development and implementation of the next country program
In collaboration with the Head of Development and working with the development team, assist with the planning, management and monitoring of strategic and effective nutrition and food security interventions, Maintain strong management and financial oversight of nutrition and food security interventions, with a particular focus on management for development results, and risk management, Ensure that the embassy’s nutrition and food security interventions are fully aligned with the Malawian Govt’s priorities and policies and with best international practice and where appropriate advocate for policy reform, Promote partnership and dialogue with govt (an national and local levels), civil society, bi-lateral and multi-lateral partners, to ensure coherent and efficient delivery of support, Ensure that policy priority actions, in the areas of gender, environment and climate change, HIV and AIDS and governance are addressed in our nutrition and food security
engagement, Provide relevant strategic policy and technical advice and input to ensure that our nutrition and food security interventions deliver real impacts to the people of Malawi, Effectively represent and communicate the results and impact of our nutrition and food security interventions
A relevant post graduate qualification in the areas of Nutrition, and or Food Security, a minimum of 5 yrs experience, working at a management level, in the area of nutrition and food security in Malawi, It is desirable that at least 2 of these yrs will have been spent working with a national or international organisation, with experience of engaging with and advocating on national nutrition and food security policy, A clear and good understanding f Malawi’s nutrition and food security policies and programmes, A good understanding of and experience in incorporating gender, environment and climate change, HIV and AIDS and governance issues within Nutrition and food security interventions, A clear and analytical understanding of political economy issues surrounding people’s access and right to food, A good understanding of and ideally exposure and experience with international processes and initiatives to address nutrition and food security
A proven track record in managing and implementing nutrition and food security programmes in Malawi, Excellent communication skills, oral and written, in both English and Chichewa, Analytical mind with strong problem solving skills, a good team player, preferably with experience in working in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team, High degree of computer literacy with advanced micro-soft and Excel skills, Demonstrate a high degree of integrity, trust and flexibility, Good networking and advocacy skills, Actively contributes to a positive and supportive working environment
