Pediatric Advisor

Under the supervision of ICAP in Mozambique’s MCH Sub Unit Manager and in coordination with ICAP-New York Clinical and Training Unit, the Pediatric Advisor will work closely with Mozambican MOH counterparts to develop new strategies for reaching Pediatric HIV targets. Responsible for providing vision and technical leadership to pediatric HIV care and treatment services at ICAP supported Health Facilities. Provides technical assistance and capacity building support to the Ministry of Health counterparts at Central, Provincial, District and Health Facility levels.
LOCATION: Maputo, Mozambique
NOTE: This position is contingent upon project award and funding.
Major Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the technical design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of a variety of interventions related to Pediatric HIV care, treatment, and PMTCT, including but not limited to the expansion of early infant diagnosis, adolescent programs, pediatric tuberculosis, and nutritional rehabilitation program
  • Provides routine supervision visits and technical support to clinical teams at ICAP supported health facilities
  • Coordinates the monitoring and evaluation of the pediatric program, including routine analyses of programmatic and clinical indicators; ongoing mentoring for Health Facility staff and ICAP teams (provincial and district level) for improving quality of clinical care, review and monitoring of indicators and target achievement; mentoring of ICAP teams (central, provincial and district level) for data analysis aimed at identifying obstacles, the subsequent development of action plans and the planning of activities
  • Prepares presentations and reports to MOH, the donor and to ICAP
  • Provides technical assistance in various pediatric sectors to the MOH and the DPS through participation in technical working groups, joint provincial supervision visits and attendance of national meetings and conferences
  • Develops, implements and evaluates formal training in the area of pediatrics, pediatric ART, TB and child nutrition
Education
  • Requires a MD with specialization in pediatrics
  • Master’s degree in public health, tropical diseases, infectious diseases and / or clinical background, (in addition to MD) strongly preferred
Experience, Skills & Required Qualifications
  • Pediatrician with demonstrated experience in the care and treatment of pediatric HIV
  • Approximately three (3) to five (5) years of experience practicing care and treatment of people living with HIV and ART
  • Approximately three (3) to five (5) years of experience developing programmatic plans, monitoring, providing technical support
  • Demonstrated experience in resource limited settings
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Fluent in both oral and written Portuguese and English
Travel Requirements
  • Requires up to 30% travel to the provinces and districts throughout Mozambique with some trips requiring overnight stays
