About
The Art & Global Health Center (AGHC) Africa fosters creative leadership and implements innovative arts-based, health-oriented programs that inspire and mobilize. Our small, passionate and friendly team believes in the transformative power of the arts for experiential learning, cross-cultural understanding, eliciting empathy and strengthening of community. Three programs, MAKE ART/STOP AIDS, Students with Dreams, and ‘Umunthu’, are the core of our work. MAKE ART/STOP AIDS brings together People Living with HIV/AIDS, artists, and other members of the community to collaboratively create performance interventions that address issues of stigma, fear, prevention, testing and treatment, culminating in the creation and execution of community action plans. Students with Dreams empowers young leaders to create and implement innovative programs in response to challenges they see in society, such as: gender inequality, education, human rights, and HIV/AIDS. The Umunthu Program uses film and arts as a catalyst for discussion on contentious human rights issues, which have implications on health.
As a new organisation (formally established in 2013), we are focused on developing innovative and effective programming, demonstrating and learning from the results of our work, building partnerships and collaboration, and developing our systems, processes and revenue sources to maximize our impact.
