CTTBD (Center for Tick and Tick-borne diseases is an African institution whose mandate includes provision of demand driven sport fin the control of livestock diseases for the development of the livestock industry in Africa, Its core activities include production of veterinary tick-borne disease vaccines, training in livestock disease control and contract demand driven research

Laboratory Technicians

Cell Culture – 2 posts

Parasitology – 1 post

Preparation and maintenance of cell lines and media, Provide support for the team by producing sterile media and other laboratory reagents, Performance of weekly autoclave checks and sterilisation of equipment, Collection of blood from experimental animals and preparation of lymphocytes from blood for use in vitro culture, Preparation, staining and examination of smears, Monitoring and maintenance of the laboratory as regards cleanliness and sterility, Preparation of requisitions for ordering laboratory supplies from external sources, Maintenance of all records related to the laboratory and all other projects, Carry out any other duties as assigned by the chief Technician and the R&D Manager

Successful candidate will have a Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent in Biology, Microbiology or parasitology with at least 2 yrs experience in a busy tissue culture laboratory, Possession of an MSC in the above mentioned disciplines would be an added advantage

Excellent time management skills and ability to work flexibility to meet changing schedules, Ability to prioritise workloads to meet production requirements, Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, Ability to work with minimal supervision, Ability to author technical documents including reports

Assist in production of East Coast Fever Vaccine (ECF), Monitoring cattle during vaccine production processes, Assist in sample preparations for parasitological, PCR and Serological laboratory diagnosis, Assist in preparation of protozoological laboratory reagents, Assist in parasitological laboratory diagnosis of tick and tick-borne disease parasites, Assist in preparation of ECF vaccine diluents, Assist in processing and dispatching of vaccine and diluents to clients, Assist in monitoring of laboratory equipment and general maintenance and cleanliness of the parasitology laboratory, Assist the Vaccine Production Manager in data input and maintenance of records of the various stages of the vaccine production process, Any other duties as assigned by the Chief Technician and Vaccine Production Manager

Candidates must possess a Diploma in Animal Health and livestock Production or equivalent, A working experience of at least 2 yrs in a parasitology laboratory would be an added advantage

Contract period: 1 yr fixed term contract for the 3 positions
