Chemonics seeks multiple technical experts for an anticipated multiyear, USAID-funded health
initiative to assist the government of Malawi. This activity will be USAID/Malawi's primary
mechanism for engagement in Malawi's health sector at the district level, and will work to improve the health status of Malawians in each target district, with particular focus on the reduction of maternal and newborn mortality and child morbidity. The overall objectives of the program will be to support the Malawian government's efforts to improve access to priority health services; improve quality of priority health services; strengthen district health systems; and increase community demand for priority services. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
We are seeking technical specialists in the following areas:
- Maternal, neonatal, and child health
- Reproductive health/Family planning
- Malaria
- Water, sanitation, and hygiene
- Nutrition
- Social behavioral change communications
- Health systems strengthening; human resources management systems
- Community engagement and mobilization
- Gender equity and youth
- Private health sector engagement
- Finance and operations project management
Responsibilities include:
- Provide technical input for project implementation to achieve targets in health outcome goals
- Ensure all project assistance is technically sound and appropriate for the local context
- Write and contribute to reports and other deliverables
- Liaise with government of Malawi, stakeholders, and counterparts in the public and private sectors
- Collaborate and implement a strategic, long-term, programmatic vision
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in relevant discipline preferred
- Minimum eight years of relevant development experience designing, implementing, and managing USAID or other donor-funded development programs
- Minimum three years in Southern Africa required; experience in Malawi strongly preferred
- Significant experience in key areas listed above with ability to achieve program targets
- Strong ability and desire to work collaboratively with the government of Malawi, international donors, and local partners
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of appropriate technologies
- Experience in monitoring and evaluation, data collection and management, and knowledge sharing
- Interest in building capacity of local partners
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- Fluency in English required
