CBM Country Representative in Malawi
Location: Lilongwe, Malawi
Contract Duration: 2 years
Contract Start: Spring (April) 2014
Objective: Reporting to the Regional Director for Southern Africa, the Country Representative represents CBM towards partner organizations and other institutions in Malawi. The position holder will lead the country office team as well as all CBM co-workers in Malawi that are attached to partner organizations. He/she will facilitate and ensure monitoring and evaluation of CBM partner projects in close collaboration with other programmatic staff employed by CBM in Malawi and the Regional Office for Southern Africa. In addition he/she will identify requirements and opportunities for the implementation of CBM’s Country Plan 2012-16, and its delineated annual business plans. Further, he/she will interact with government as well as national and international NGOs and donor agencies to ensure continuous development of the disability and development work of CBM and its partner organizations.
Main tasks
•Manage international and national staff working for CBM in Malawi in coordination with the Regional Office
•Monitor the performance, accountability and timely implementation of existing CBM partner projects in Malawi
•Develop concepts for the contextual implementation of the Global Programme Strategy and work with CBM partners in the development of project proposals and funding applications in line with CBM’s Malawi Country Plan 2012-16
•Develop and implement capacity building strategies of Project Partner on needs- and priority basis, in liaison with CBM Regional Office
•Represent CBM in meetings with government, national and international organisations and/or donor agencies important for CBM’s work in the country
•Contribute to the development of technical documents, policies and legislation of the Government of Malawi in areas relevant for inclusive development
•Represent CBM’s values and promote the image of CBM in Malawi as a leading disability and development organisation
•Facilitate logistical and technical support to visitors from Regional Office, International Office and Member Associations
Professional Profile
•Relevant academic qualifications
•Min. experience of five (5) years in the development sector including experience in project implementation with local organisations, as well as on national level, preferably in Africa
•Experience in a management positions
•Previous experience in working in partnership with governments and NGOs
•Excellent leadership skills
•Good managerial qualities with regard to administration, finance and human resources
•Thorough knowledge of international mainstream development trends Experience in the field of disability and development will be a strong added value
•The ability to develop short, medium and long-term strategies with regard to partner capacity development
•Experience in the development and implementation of policies on various levels of organisational management
•Good writing skills and the ability to develop meaningful concepts, proposals and reports meeting international standards
•Capable of working with minimal supervision and with a clear vision of participatory approaches, sustainability and partner capacity development
•Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
