The Editor, International Homepage BBC.com, is the editorial lead on the BBC international homepage, overseeing and coordinating daily output. They are also responsible for managing regional teams (outside of North America) that support the product.

Role Responsibility

Day to day, the editor and their team promote content provided by Public Service, GNL and BBC WW that delights and engages our international (ex-UK) audience and is relevant and appropriate for them.
They are also responsible for managing BBC.com editorial solutions (includes: all commercial promotional modules across both the international homepage and News index and story pages as well as some ad-funded content). They will ensure that the page is successful and meets agreed targets for consumers, advertisers and potential content partners.
They will also be responsible for overseeing the continued evolution of the homepage to ensure the editorial and product serve the BCB audience as well as BBC Worldwide, Global News Ltd and Public Service strategic objectives. They will also ensure the page and content embody the BBC brand through their design, functionality and editorial.
This role will have a dotted line report into the Digital Commissioning Editor for Global News Ltd.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:
Editorial judgement, accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
Excellent understanding of global news and current affairs
Experience working with a focus on an international audience.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proven ability to communicate with editorial, design and technical teams.
Proven experience of researching, producing and sub-editing content for a 24/7 consumer-facing online product or service, including deep experience of writing attention grabbing headlines and copy
Deep understanding of the use of analytics and the ways in which it can be used to optimsie performance
Understanding of the opportunities – and limitations – presented by new platforms and technologies (apps, responsive design etc)
Experience of sourcing, editing and manipulating images using programs such as Adobe PhotoShop.
Proven experience of prioritising and managing work in an editorial environment with tight deadlines and a daily output.
Proven experience of identifying and responding appropriately to editorial and legal issues and managing and recording their timely and satisfactory resolution.
The resilience and stamina to sustain performance under pressure.
A good working knowledge of content and data management systems, and an understanding of the use of metadata.
High degree of internet and computer literacy and experience of content management systems, as well as programs such as HomeSite or other HTML editor, PhotoShop, WS FTP Pro
Experience of establishing and maintaining relationships with internal and external content sources, suppliers and stakeholders.
An understanding of the role of BBC Worldwide and its relationship with other BBC divisions such as Public Service,  Future Media & Technology and Global News.
Excellent stakeholder management skills
Ability to lead and inspire a team that is spread geographically around the world
Post-holders will be professional journalists or editors with recognised qualifications. Equivalent experience combined with demonstrable commitment to the BBC and an understanding of its editorial aims and ambitions will be accepted in lieu.
Substantial experience editing websites and/or other digital products at a senior, managerial level
Substantial experience in digital media company, ideally with experience of working with/in a busy, daily, digital newsroom aimed at international audiences
Substantial experience of writing for the web/creating content for the web
Experience in a commercial environment desirable
