IFC invests in several key sectors including: Financial Institutions; Infrastructure; Manufacturing; Oil, Gas and Mining; Consumer and Social Services; Agribusiness and telecommunications.

Based on its extensive emerging markets experience, technical expertise and decentralized office infrastructure, IFC has been able to deliver consistently strong returns on its investments. IFC’s track record and unique platform has proved attractive for other investors and IFC is increasingly raising and managing third-party capital to co-invest in IFC transactions.

As well as mobilizing capital at the transaction level, IFC has set up an asset management business to raise and manage third-party capital in a fund format. IFC Asset Management Company, LLC (AMC) is the fund management arm of IFC; it was established in 2009 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of IFC, to mobilize and manage third-party capital for investment in private enterprise in developing and frontier markets. It aims to enhance IFC’s development impact and financial sustainability, as well as generating superior returns for its investors.

AMC–managed funds are targeted at large sophisticated investors who are looking to increase their exposure to emerging markets and who are interested in accessing IFC’s transaction pipeline, investment approach and standards, global reach and track record of superior returns. AMC currently has more than $6 billion under management in six different funds focused on specific sectors and geographies and including equity, quasi-equity, subordinated debt and a fund of funds product. Further funds are planned as IFC continues to expand its mobilization of third-party capital, both in terms of the types of fund product it manages, as well as the number, type and location of investors participating in these funds. To achieve this goal, IFC is looking to enhance is global fund-raising capability.

IFC is looking for a Senior Business Development Officer to focus on developing relationships with existing and potential third-party investors from China and other countries in Asia. The candidate will be responsible for introducing the IFC and AMC platforms to potential investors in China. This person will focus on mobilizing Chinese and other Asian investors for all equity products in the IFC universe including AMC Funds, direct investments and other potential co-investment structures. The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the universe of potential investors in China and other parts of Asia, as well as strong access to these investors, a track record of working with multilateral organizations, and an involvement with developing countries. The role will include working with IFC and the AMC on (i) fund-raising efforts; (ii) client relations activities; (iii) refining and implementing marketing plans; (iv) the development of marketing and client relations materials, products and events; and (v) working with IFC and AMC colleagues on future funds strategy.
Duties and Accountabilities:
In particular, the successful applicant will: 

• Research, identify and assess prospective investors

• Develop and implement marketing strategies to reach new investors

• Work with the IFC and AMC teams to develop marketing materials for existing and new investors

• Refine the communication plan for existing investors and strengthen existing relationships 

• Provide key market insights and knowhow to support decision-making on new AMC funds and marketing plans

• Aid in coordination and management of fundraising efforts 

• Develop and organise fund raising and networking events

• Contribute to management of the investor database (investor profiles and interactions)

• Work closely with AMC’s Head of Client Relations and other fund-raising units in IFC to ensure a coordinated approach
Selection Criteria:
• Master’s degree or equivalent academic qualification in a relevant discipline 

• 8+ years of relevant work experience is required 

• Exceptional interpersonal and marketing skills 

• A strong client service orientation with excellent relationship building abilities

• Strong financial analytical and business management skills and exceptional attention to detail

• The ability to work effectively across organizational boundaries and to build networks across the industry

• Strong self-starter skills, pro-active, results oriented with ability to function as a senior individual contributor

• Strong organizational skills and project management experience 

• Familiarity with IFC, its mission and operations is important

• Deep knowledge of investors in Asia, particularly China, and an understanding of their appetite for investing in Africa and other emerging markets around the world

• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required, including a demonstrated ability to communicate complex business messages into clear communication messages and material

• A willingness for extensive travel is required

The position will be based initially in Washington, DC, however there will be frequent travel to China and other parts of Asia.
