PLANT/SITE OPERATIONS MANAGER (LEAD)

Based in North West

A Global chemical manufacturing company seeks an experienced and qualified candidate to manage its plant and site operations in the North West area. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the site resources and continuously improving the processes and assets to meet the business needs in terms of HSEQ, customer response, cost and efficiency, as well as compliance with internal and external standards and legislation.
Minimum Requirements:
  • A relevant engineering / manufacturing degree coupled with relevant postgraduate qualification.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in a manufacturing or supply chain operations environment.
  • A minimum of 5 years in a senior management / lead operations role of a plant / site
  • A solid track record of delivery in project and change management
  • Fully experienced in manufacturing site HSEQ standards and legislation compliance procedures
  • Solid experience in managing large budgets, finances and controls
  • Solid experience in and knowledge of formulation filling and packing manufacturing processes
  • Solid knowledge of SA labour legislation and laws including union consultations and negotiations
  • Experience in leading a large team of technical staff
  • Experience in working in a chemicals manufacturing environment
  • Expert business management skills in terms of managing and leading for profit
  • Proven and solid track record in leadership
  • Excellent strategic ability and business acumen skills
  • Professional communicator with persuasion skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Autonomous leadership of site in line with organisational culture and the production and supply strategy
  • Manage the fixed, variable and capital cost performance in line with agreed budgets and targets
  • Ensure all HSE, quality, legal and fiscal standards are continuously improved and monitored, that risks are controlled and minimised, complaints are investigated and improvement actions implemented
  • Ensure high levels of customer service and responsiveness for all products supplied all markets
  • Identify motivate and coach key resources to drive and deliver improvement projects, product establishments or performance improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to and influence the EAME Asset strategy and support implementation through proactive participation in the Site Management Leadership team.

ORGANISATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Capability development of the site leadership team and wider resources, to build a strong and sustainable manufacturing capability.
  • Ensure efficient and effective communication flow and networking among site departments, other sites, business units in SA and headquarters.

STRATEGIC IMPACT:
  • Develop a vision for the site reflecting key business drivers, translate this into ambitious targets both and set a clear strategy to achieve them
  • Define an agenda to implement the strategy that is cascaded to the organisation generating commitment and energy to impact in implementation.

REPRESENTATION OF ORGANISATION:
  • Build trust inside the company and in the local community reflecting organisational values
  • Manage relationship with local / national authorities
  • Ensure media relations management consistent with company policy and organisational brand.

CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS AND KEY CHALLENGES:
  • Continuous improvement in manufacturing operations and performance KPI's
  • Increase business contribution through lower cost of goods through efficient production processes
  • Maintain a safe working environment and compliance with all standards and legislation
  • Set direction and allocate appropriate resources to change initiatives
  • Sustain the capability of the organisation and its people.
