National Director – Malawi
This is your opportunity to use your world-class leadership skills to play a key role in effectively improving the lives and futures of children and their families in Malawi.
In the role of National Director you will lead World Vision’s operations in Malawi, based in Lilongwe. You will also be a significant contributor to the broader global efforts of World Vision, currently working in nearly one hundred countries, helping around 100 million people in their struggle for better lives and futures for themselves and their children.
World Vision has been active in Malawi for over 30 years, touching the lives of over 133,500 children and in 26 districtsthrough 44 long-term Area Development Programmes (ADPs). Our work primarily focuses on long term community development, empowering people to take charge of their futures and make their communities places free of need and full of promise for their children. We also work to protect and promote human rights, especially those of children. And we work with communities to minimise their exposure to disasters and making it easier to deal with them when they occur.
We are looking for a visionary leader who can combine strong business disciplines with inspirational leadership skills in line with our Christian values and ethos. You will have a passionate desire to help others, especially children.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
 
  • Provide overall strategic leadership and initiative for identifying and securing financial resources to support the program.
  • Promote WV’s Vision, Mission, Core Values and key Partnership Standards and Practices among the staff and partners and ensure these are the core foundation of World Vision Malawi strategies and work.
  • Ensure that capable staff is available to implement office strategy and operational plans.
  • Represent World Vision Malawi (WVM); engage and build strategic alliances with the government of Malawi, WVM advisory board, major donor agencies, WV Partnership, non-governmental agencies, churches and media.
  • Develop and implement appropriate advocacy strategies to raise awareness of and advocate for change in key issues within the specific context.
  • Ensure efficient and effective organisational practices that would result in successful financial and operational audit scores.
 
SKILLS REQUIRED INCLUDE:
  • Master’s Degree in International Development or equivalent.
  • Significant leadership and management experience in handling complex humanitarian emergencies and country/national multi-sectoral projects is required.
  • 8-10 years of experience in leadership/management field (3-5 of which should be in an international organisation). Management experience of an organisation with over 400-500 staff preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethos, Vision Statement, Core Values and Mission Statement of World Vision International.
  • Must be a committed Christian (growing in faith), able to stand above denominational diversities.
  • Technological literacy: Knowledge of computers, email, internet and current office software is strongly preferred.
  • Work environment: Office-based with frequent travel to the field (and internationally).
  • Travel: 30% Domestic/international travel may be required.
  • On call: After normal working hours in cases of emergency or high-level visitor delegations.
