Purpose of the Position
Leads SD support to CO and government to improve supply chain support for selected essential products/product groups in order to reduce costs, stock-outs and/or wastage, improve performance and help achieve results.
Key Expected Results
  • In collaboration with UNICEF Country Offices, Regional Offices, Programme Division and key Supply Division centres lead the identification of priority countries and commodities, set objectives, establish and execute activity plan to support improvements in supply chain performance. Project support to include resource allocation, management, identifying correct technical support and establishing parameters to measure improvement activities.
  • Lead and manage a team of sector-based supply chain, logistics and supply monitoring experts.
  • Coordinate supply chain related engagement with key partners such as GFATM, WB and GAVI
  • Establish and manage new partnerships amongst private sector and academic institutions to provide operations support, supply chain analysis, improvement, innovation, research and publication of results. This includes working with commercial contractors.
  • Ensure support to UNICEF country office logistics and supply chain operation by providing required guidance, tools, access to partners, systems support and technical advice.
  • Working through Country Offices, establish monitoring systems to quickly identify supply chain bottlenecks and measure continuous improvements over-time. This requires the identification of key targets for supply chain performance for each intervention.
  • Through thorough supply chain assessments, interventions and analysis, demonstrate supply chain performance improvements over time and supply chain contribution to key programme results.
Qualifications of Successful Candidate
  • Academic qualifications:
    Educated to Master`s Degree level, preferably within the areas of supply chain management, logistics management, procurement, management sciences, management of health programmes.
  • Work Experience:
    At least ten years of experience in the area of supply management, supply chain management and supply support to development programmes. Demonstrated capacity to work within the international development environment, managing supply chain and information systems and managing supply chain operations in resource poor environments. Experience with managing partnerships and commercial contracts within these environments.
  • Any other requirements

  • Language requirements:
    English and another UN language, preferably French
