Summary

Women’s World Banking seeks an individual for a consulting position to provide expertise on a savings project in Malawi. The consultant will provide on-site support during implementation of a savings product tailored to meet the needs of low-income women, and roll-out of a distribution network of agency and mobile banking channels in urban and rural areas.

Objectives

The consultant will be responsible for the following objectives:

1. Provide field support to Women’s World Banking’s partner bank during pilot preparation, launch and roll-out.
2. Serve as liaison for Women’s World Banking’s project manager, technical staff and consultants.
3. Provide technical assistance to Women’s World Banking’s partner bank in specific areas including:
• Agent management for delivery channels strategy,
• Developing and integrating performance management and monitoring tools for agent network,
• Developing and integrating management information reporting for low-income segment,
• Staff and agent training and development.
4. Participate as part of a cross-functional team in Women’s World Banking-led technical assistance project components; these include pilot planning, strategy development for delivery channels, marketing and financial education, reporting and performance indicators, and training and development.
5. Support partner bank in meeting project milestones on time and in achieving key performance targets.

Project Team & Location of Work

The consultant will work with a small team from Women’s World Banking including staff members and consultants. The position will be based in Blantyre, Malawi.

Duration of Consultancy

The consultant will be procured for an initial period of six months and the contract will be extended for an additional six months, pending performance in the initial six-month period.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional experience of 5-7 years in provision of financial services (banking, mobile money or microfinance)
• Prior experience implementing agency or mobile banking solutions
• Work experience in developing countries; experience in Africa preferred
• Hands-on manager with track record of implementing projects in a multi-disciplinary and/or multi-cultural setting
• Strong project management and reporting skills required; previous experience with international agencies or donor-funded projects an advantage
• Strong interpersonal, analytical, writing, and problem-solving skills
• Fluency in English required
