Volunteer Accountant in Malawi

Our partner’s overall purpose is the empowerment of women and girls, particularly in their sexual and reproductive health. It was founded in Ghana and the UK in 2003 and expanded to open an office in Malawi in 2007.
Currently, there are two programmes that are run in the Malawi office: The Community Programme works with female sex workers and sexually exploited children in the capital city, Lilongwe.
The Education Programme is a national programme reaching thousands of teachers and primary school children across the country every year.
Role:
The organisation has grown quickly in the last two-years, particularly with a grant for the Girls’ Education Challenge. This additional income presents challenges and opportunities, and we are now looking for an experienced accountant who can provide support in the following areas:
• Accounting – giving general support to the Finance Director on a day to day basis.
• Systems upgrade – supporting the team in the transition to Quickbooks.
• Capacity Building – training other members of the team in the use of Quickbooks.
• Human Resource – helping to standardise all contracts.
Person Specification:
• ACCA qualifications
• Experience of NGO/Charity accounting
• Significant recent experience of Quickbooks and ability to train others how to use it
• Ability to solve day to day accounting problems in a practical, hands on manner
The assignment will last for 2-6 months, with an option of extension depending on performance
Our partner will pay for flights and accommodation in Malawi. In addition our partner will cover vaccinations, anti-malarials, travel insurance, airport pick-up and drop-off, in-country transport and laundry. You will be based at the offices in Lilongwe from 07:30 – 16:30 Monday to Friday and You will be reporting to a past AfID volunteer who is now working as the FD at our partner.
