The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an inter-governmental organisation mandated with the widespread and increased adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy. IRENA supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future, and serves as the principal platform for international cooperation, a centre of excellence, and a repository of policy, technology, resource and financial knowledge on renewable energy. The Agency implements its mandate with the view to sustainable development, increased energy security and low-carbon economic growth and prosperity.
IRENA Innovation and Technology Centre (IITC) is responsible for the provision of the means for an accelerated renewable energy technology uptake, considering national conditions of resource endowment, social and economic frameworks. In accordance with the IRENA Statute, activities in this field include analysis of renewable energy technology policies; dissemination of information and increased awareness; technologies and equipment overview and assessment of success-failure factors; improved pertinent knowledge and technology transfer, and joint RD&D and provision of information about the development and deployment of national and international technical standards in relation to renewable energy.
Under the supervision of the Senior Programme Officer – Renewable Energy Markets and Technology Dialogue of IITC, the Programme Assistant - Innovation will provide general office assistance and will, in particular:
  • Serve as focal point responsible for administrative coordination of programme and project implementation activities, involving liaison with a diverse units in the organization to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, process and follow-up on administrative tasks. Administrative tasks include, among other, project budget management, travel arrangements, and procurement of equipment and services;
  • Monitor status of programme and project activities, receipt of documentation for review and approval;
  • Compile, summarize and enter up-to-date data on project delivery; Draft status reports on project delivery and bring shortfalls to the attention of supervisor;
  • Review project documents, prior to submission for final approval and signature;
  • Draft, format and edit correspondence/presentations and prepare and update progress reports, briefing notes, graphic and statistical summaries and accounting spreadsheets;
  • Support the organization of substantive events, meetings and workshops, including agenda preparation, drafting minutes, overseeing budget, travel and logistical aspects;
  • Assist in proof-reading technical documents;
  • Provide ad-hoc back up support for the programme officer or admin assistants of other units as requested;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Post-secondary education/courses in administration with an emphasis on project and budgetary management would be an asset.
Experience: Five years of progressively responsible experience in the field of project and office management, budget, accounting, finance or other related field. Experience working in international organizations is an asset. Excellent computer skills in Windows environment, knowledge of internet communications and command of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, and Power Point) and experience in the use of web based management systems.
Language: Excellent command of written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of other languages is desirable.
IRENA reserves the right to appoint a candidate at a lower level than the advertised level of the post.
