Job Summary
The Lab Advisor will support in the organization and provision of high quality laboratory services through technical assistance to the Provincial Health Directorate (DPS). This position will work closely with the Provincial Laboratory Chief to improve the quality and coordination of laboratory services across the province. This position will be based full-time at the DPS Provincial Laboratory.
Key Responsibilities
In coordination with the Provincial Laboratory Chief, the Lab Advisor is responsible for the following activities:
- Assist in planning and implementing lab activities, including performing basic lab reviews and building the district and provincial lab capacity.
- Provide technical assistance to the province, district and health facility lab staff, including standard and systematic compliance of lab testing procedures: PCR, CD4 count, ELISA, rapid tests, hematology tests and biochemistry, including lactic acid dosage.
- Assist in implementing and monitoring efficient documentation of lab results at sites, as well as effective links between lab and clinic services.
- Develop reports on the progress of each site, and implement management and quality assurance activities.
- Support the development of pre-service training programs at the Training Institute (IDF) as well as in-service trainings.
- The Lab Advisor, in coordination with IDF Academic Director, will organize training materials for the clinical laboratory program designed at the national level to be implemented at the IDF, and jointly review training materials with national counterparts as well as recommend necessary improvements to programs and materials.
- Design, in collaboration with national counterparts, new training materials, as needed.
- Design and ensure the implementation of an applied training program, suitable for completing the lab training, as required by national guidelines, as well as ensuring the implementation of a mentoring program.
- Work closely with the DPS, the IDF, and the district health authorities and other implementing partners to provide support in the areas of health, training and capacity building, to ensure proper coordination and better use of resources.
Skills Prerequisites
Bachelor degree preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
4+ years of experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.
