WorldFish, a member of the CGIAR Consortium, is an international, nonprofit research organization. CGIAR is a global partnership that unites organizations engaged in research for a food secure future. CGIAR research is dedicated to reducing rural poverty, increasing food security, improving human health and nutrition, and ensuring more sustainable management of natural resources. It is carried out by the 15 centers who are members of the CGIAR Consortium in close collaboration with hundreds of partner organizations, including national and regional research institutes, civil society organizations, academia, and the private sector. WorldFish is committed to meeting two key development challenges: 1) improving the livelihoods of those who are especially poor and vulnerable in places where fisheries and aquaculture can make a difference and 2) achieving large scale, environmentally sustainable, increases in supply and access to fish at affordable prices for poor consumers in developing countries. Project Coordinator (Zomba, Malawi) Under the overall guidance of the Project Manager, the Project Coordinator will provide support to the in-country coordination, technical and administration for the development and implementation of WorldFish projects in Malawi and contribute to the establishment of WorldFish representation in Malawi. S/he will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the project office; serve as focal contact for internal and external communications about WorldFish’s work in Malawi; and support the design, contracting and supervision of research and development project activities that are undertaken by national partners in Malawi Responsibilities 1. Develop activity-level work plans and budgets, monitor progress against project objectives and milestones, draft project reports, provide regular updates, and identify and alert potential risk factors to Project Leaders and other relevant parties. 2. Ensure effective and efficient day-to-day operations of the project, including exceptional financial tracking and reporting with the highest integrity, alignment and accountability for quality in WorldFish systems and procedures. 3. Manage Government relationships and various partner contracts. Represent WorldFish at external meetings and consultations as directed by project leader and ensure that the project’s objectives and outputs are communicated appropriately. 4. Perform basic accounting, administrative, Human resource functions and monthly reporting for the office 5. Provide support and capacity building to national staff and partners in setting up and implementing effective systems for project administration, documentation, storage and analysis of data collected by projects and in preparing written materials in English with high accuracy. 6. Liaising with corporate service team in headquarters/Africa region offices and updating project management information in a timely manner including processing clearance forms 7. Generate/draft proposal budgets based on defined proposal activities for the Malawi proposals as well as guide programme staff in WorldFish’s policies and procedures for developing proposals Competencies required 1. Demonstrated experience in grants and project management and administration, including budget planning and financial reporting. 2. Ability to work with a diverse range of partners in civil society, government and community. 3. Knowledge of Participatory development and livelihoods approaches in support of aquaculture, natural resources management or community development projects. 4. Excellent communication skills required with strong command of writing in English. 5. Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and able to deal with ambiguity while maintaining a strong commitment to delivering results. 6. Successful grants management, donor relationships and project management experience 7. Effective collaborator in Africa region, and within a global organization, and experience coordinating multiple relationships to deliver on-time 8. Field experience working with NGO or donor-funded projects on aquaculture, agriculture, natural resources management, rural development, nutrition or environmental conservation, with at least 3 years work experience in Malawi. Education Requirements A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field.
