Communications Officer – Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Malawi
The BCM-CFM Tingathe program seeks a motivated Communications Officer to assist the programme with all writing needs, including but not limited to writing quarterly and annual report, success stories, proposals, newsletters and other items as needed
at least 5 yrs documented experience writing articles for publication and/or quarterly/annual reports, newsletters or other regular updates for submission to donors, Experience leading team members in the preparation of such documents, leading the proves of assigning tasks, setting deadlines, reviewing and editing drafts as necessary, Ability to do copy editing and review others’ writing under tight deadlines, Experience representing programs to and working closely with the news media, Willingness to travel frequently to sites within Malawi to observe and write “best practices” or success stories , Experience writing proposals a plus, General understanding of the Malawian culture and districts of implementation
Experience training and mentoring staff in writing skills via in house workshops, Ability to design and offer tailored writing workshops a plus
Degree in Communications or Journalism from a reputable institution, Fluent in English both orally and written, and able to write a t a graduate level, Fluency in Chichewa a plus, Several yrs experience working in journalism or as a communications officer on health related projects, Able to prioritise and work within deadlines, often under pressure, Able to work independently and manage multiple projects at once, Familiarity with Microsoft Word a muss, another writing and publishing software a plus, Demonstrated ability to use a camera a plus, Experience with international NGOs a plus
