Groundnuts Programme Coordinator

Exagris Africa Limited (EAA) was incorporated in Malawi in April 2008, building on an established farming business, Following acquisition of another agricultural business in April 2010, the company now farms approximately 6,000 ha or estates across Malawi, on which approximately 3,000 ha are arable, The company’s farming enterprises are complemented by an outgrower programme dealing with paprika and bird’s eye chillies from across all 3 regions of Malawi, Furthermore, the company runs development programs to support communities surrounding its farms
 
The company intends to recruit energetic, result-oriented, honest, dynamic, hardworking, self starter and business minded professionals in the following positions
 
Communication across all production units, sister companies and projects of the critical success factors for profitable groundnut production and processing, These include: effective management of aflatoxin from field to final consumer, matching variety and product grades to specific markets, productivity at growing stage, effective seed management to ensure quality seed for internal use and for the market, awareness of margins available at each stage to inform production systems and buying prices and understanding the relationships between the above, Identification of key performance indicators and targets at each stage of production and processing in collaboration with managers, Collaboration with research bodies involved in groundnut breeding, aflatoxin management, groundnut productivity, processing and marketing with the aim of assessing potential for implementing research findings within business units, and then designing and implementing trials to scale up high potential production and processing practices, Researching and communication successful practices implemented globally in groundnut production and processing, Developing a management information system that will enable regular critical analysis of effects of changes across the whole value chain e.g. changes in yield, grade percentages, market price, Stimulating efforts across the group towards common goals for our groundnut business by keeping staff informed of development and on-going results/analysis, Market research for all groundnut products, including by-products, both locally and internationally and feeding back market information to production unit managers, Ensuring that donor common goals for the Exagris groundnut value chain, acting as a technical resource in guiding project activities, encouraging inter-project consistency and complementarity, and contributing to development of new projects, Contributing to development of training materials, Contributing to procurement of inputs across the value chain through research to ensure consistency with programme goals: planting and harvesting machinery, parent seed, fertiliser, agrochemicals, testing equipment, storage infrastructure, processing equipment, Facilitating effective collaboration between Exagris and its value chain partners, Producting promotional material for use both internally and externally, Any other duties assigned from time to time
 
A good first Degree and preferably a Masters Degree, in Agribusiness, Agriculture, agricultural Economics, agricultural Marketing or similar from an accredited institution, At least 5 yrs experience in working in production, processing and marketing of a mainstream agricultural product in an African environment, preferably including exports,  Good knowledge of groundnut production and processing or demonstration that detailed knowledge of another agricultural value chain could be translated to the groundnut value chain, Experience of either technical and/or market research on an agricultural product, High level analytical skills including spread sheet analysis and identification of critical conclusions from research documents, Proficient Excel user, Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to present information persuasively and effectively, Experience in the use of Power Pint, Experience of database or management information system development will be an added advantage
