Communications Director, Malawi
We are currently seeking a long-term Communications Director for an upcoming USAID-funded Agriculture Diversification for Incomes and Nutrition activity in Malawi. The project will increase the competitiveness of high-value, nutrient-rich value chains through support for agricultural enterprises and increased access to markets and finance. The targeted value chains are groundnut, soy, and orange-fleshed sweet potato. With domestic, regional, and international demand for these value chains growing, there are opportunities for smallholder farmers to diversify and increase their incomes, and for agricultural small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to develop and grow. The development of the targeted value chains also explicitly integrates nutrition and is expected to improve nutritional outcomes for targeted populations
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement project communications strategy, and oversee communications department.
- Lead development of project communications and marketing media including websites, publications, public events and workshops, etc.
- Provide high level editorial assistance to the publication of all project reporting and communications.
- Advise on communications protocol with United States Government entities, bilateral governments and private sector partners.
- Advise industry associations on the development and implementation of communications plans.
- Lead advisory role in industry brand development and dissemination strategy and marketing plans at industry events.
- Advisory role to behavioral change and advocacy teams on communications media.
- Design and implement knowledge sharing platforms.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher preferable in respective technical field and at least 8 years of relevant experience, or a BA/BS in related technical field with 10 years of experience
- Experience providing leadership and managing multiple highly complex project components
- Proven experience contributing to the design and implementation of a government strategic communications strategy required.
- Superior, demonstrated writing, reporting, and oral presentation skills (ability to provide an original writing sample required)
- Highly advanced graphic design (preferably Adobe InDesign) and web editing skill. Proficient in video editing.
- Regional Experience in Southern Africa
- Excellent communication skills
