Youth & Gender Director, Malawi
We are currently seeking a long-term Youth & Gender Director for an upcoming USAID-funded Agriculture Diversification for Incomes and Nutrition activity in Malawi. The project will increase the competitiveness of high-value, nutrient-rich value chains through support for agricultural enterprises and increased access to markets and finance. The targeted value chains are groundnut, soy, and orange-fleshed sweet potato. With domestic, regional, and international demand for these value chains growing, there are opportunities for smallholder farmers to diversify and increase their incomes, and for agricultural small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to develop and grow. The development of the targeted value chains also explicitly integrates nutrition and is expected to improve nutritional outcomes for targeted populations
Responsibilities:
  • Lead all youth and gender activities under the project contract and will closely collaborate with all other partners involved.
  • Advise the program in developing strategies and plans to improve the economic participation rate of youth and women and systemic changes within the labor force.
  • Strengthen service data/monitoring to ensure that youth and gender inequities are tracked and appropriate response strategies are implemented; organize/support regular monitoring among local districts, NGO/CBO partners, and service providers; analyze and report on program and project progress.
  • Ensure that youth and gender program components are results-oriented.
  • Prepare and conduct trainings on youth and gender topics for staff and beneficiaries.
  • Collaborate with other staff to ensure gender and youth are integrated properly throughout the program areas and is in accordance with USAID’s youth and gender strategy.
Qualifications:
  • A university degree in sociology, gender studies, economics, agriculture economics or a related field required
  • Five (5) years or more of progressively responsible work experience demonstrating experience conducting youth and gender analysis and gender integration programming, including with on-the-ground participatory approaches to research
  • Understanding of USAID’s youth, gender, and value chain techniques and approaches
  • Experience with USAID-funded projects preferred.
  • Strong English language written and oral communication skills are required
