Seed Production and Technology Dissemination Specialist – Feed the Future Malawi Improved Seed Systems and Technologies (MISST) Project
Under the supervision of Program Manager for the soybean technology dissemination project and as a team member of the larger Feed the Future Malawi Improved Seed Systems and Technologies (MISST) project, the Seed Production and Technology Dissemination Specialist will be responsible for developing and operationalizing a seed system as well as a technology dissemination strategy for promoting the adoption of improved soybean varieties among target beneficiaries in the MISST project districts in central and southern Malawi
Plan and coordinate the production and delivery of different classes of seed of soybean varieties (breeder, foundation, and certified) to target beneficiaries as per the seed road map and in collaboration with public and private sector actors, Promote the adoption of improved soybean varieties and complementary best-bet agronomic practices through field demonstrations and farmer-to-farmer technology dissemination, Prepare manuals and conduct training on soybean seed production tailored to the needs of the project partners, Prepare farmer-friendly extension materials on improved soybean varieties and crop management practices for dissemination through print and non-print media, Organise field days, training/orientation programs and exhibitions in collaboration with NASFAM and other project partners and disseminate information on improved soybean varieties among farmers, Liaise with different partners involved in seed production, particularly private seed companies, NGOs and farmers’ groups (NASFAM) to promote the establishment of sustainable public private sector partnerships, Contribute to project quarterly and annual planning meetings and budgeting process by furnishing timely information on seed production, distribution and other field activities of the project, Prepare monthly and quarterly technical experts on seed production and delivery, technology demonstration and dissemination and training of farmers and extension staff, Undertake any other duties that may be assigned by the superior
MSc Degree in seed technology, agronomy, plant breeding or crop science from a recognised university, Demonstrated experience working with public and private sector actors involved in seed production and agricultural technology dissemination, Experience in designing and conducting seed production and delivery schemes, Experience in conducting training programs for farmers and extension staff in the area of seed as well as grain production, Proficiency with MS Office applications, Excellent spoken and written English, Ability to work with multidisciplinary research for development team
The contracts will be for a period of 2 yrs with possibility of renewal based on performance and availability of funding, These are nationally recruited staff positions and IITA offers nationally competitive remuneration packages paid in local currency
These positions will be based at IITA-Malawi Offices, Chitedze Research Station, Lilongwe
