Business Services Director, Malawi
We are currently seeking a long-term Business Services Director for an upcoming USAID-funded Agriculture Diversification for Incomes and Nutrition activity in Malawi. The project will increase the competitiveness of high-value, nutrient-rich value chains through support for agricultural enterprises and increased access to markets and finance. The targeted value chains are groundnut, soy, and orange-fleshed sweet potato. With domestic, regional, and international demand for these value chains growing, there are opportunities for smallholder farmers to diversify and increase their incomes, and for agricultural small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to develop and grow. The development of the targeted value chains also explicitly integrates nutrition and is expected to improve nutritional outcomes for targeted populations
Responsibilities:
  • Develop capacity of Malawian business advisory firms to identify and support investors, entrepreneurs, and producer organizations to pursue market and investment opportunities.
  • Research, pilot and scale-up commercially viable products and services to facilitate the development of sustainable farm to fork supply chains and reduce market risk.
  • Develop market-driven and sustainable models for delivering capacity building and organizational development services to producer organizations and SMEs.
  • Identify and support market opportunities that will addresses the inequitable representation of women and youth in value chains.
Qualifications:
  • M.S., M.B.A., or other post-graduate degree in agribusiness, business administration, organizational development or other relevant field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant and progressive work experience in developing countries, in the area of agronomy, agribusiness, and/or agricultural trade and investment.
  • Proven knowledge of agribusiness systems in Malawi
  • Excellent communication skills for a wide audience of stakeholders.
  • Fluent English skills required.
