Software Developers (Lilongwe)


Basic function of the Job:The incumbent will mainly be responsible for developing, supporting and maintaining features and software of new and existing electronic systems for Baobab Heath Trust Projects which are deployed in health facilities throughout Malawi, improving overall health care. The incumbent will implement software specifications through following of best practices and formatting guidelines, he/she will build tests to ensure specification completeness, and will document the code.

Duties and Responsibilities;
Responsibilities will include, but not limited to the following:
1. Build/develop and design of software and features of new and current electronic systems for our clients in line with program specification and requirements, in line with best practices and formatting guidelines.
2. Build tests to ensure specification completeness.
3. Provide support in terms of adding features to current systems, modifications or debugging errors, configuration, administration and user training in collaboration with other departments.
4. Work in close cooperation with external departments, to ensure user needs are addressed.
Qualifications, experience and key competencies required:
- Minimum of Bachelor of Science degree in Computing, Information Technology or any relevant qualification.
- Candidates with minimal work experience will have an added advantage.
- Readiness to complete a Scrum certification course and a certification course on patient records security.
- Fluency in both spoken and written English and Chichewa languages.
- Knowledge of the software development life-cycle. A good understanding of networking will be a plus.
- Able to work with Ruby on Rails, Java, Linux, Databases (SQL and NoSQL), HTML, Javascript and automated software testing. (Candidates with Java experience will have an added advantage)
Able to design and implement efficient algorithms and data structures
- Able to read and interpret software specifications
- Able to multi task, independent, mature and capable to work under time-pressure.
