The successful candidate will work under the guidance of the Project Coordinator. This position is under senior national staff category on Pay Grade 9.
Essential Duties:
- Assist the Project Coordinator to coordinate the implementation of the project work plan among partners.
- Assist in coordination and management of designs, plot layouts and trials, including supervision of field operations.
- Coordinate and supervise all technicians and casual laborers working on trials and seed multiplication for which he/she has responsibility.
- Assist the leadership in the planning review meetings, preparation and writing of progress and annual reports.
- In collaboration with national partners collect field, lab data and compile data for analysis, writing scientific reports.
- Assist to follow up timely disbursement of funds to national partners and expenditure from partners.
- Assist in following up timely submission of the technical and financial reports from national partners.
- Assist in preparation, sensitization and training workshops as well as project review.
· Carry out any other duty as may be assigned by the Project Coordinator.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- MSc degree in Agronomy/Breeding from a recognized university
- Good experience in managing and conducting research
- Proficiency with Excel, SAS, SPSS, and STATA
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
- Ability to work under pressure and submit required information
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Demonstrated ability to write research reports
- Demonstrate ability to work with farmers and in multidisciplinary teams
- Knowledge and experience in organizing/mobilizing farmers
- At least five years of experience in the field
Conditions: This is a nationally recruited staff position and the contracts will be for a period of two years. IITA offers nationally competitive remuneration packages paid in local currency.
Duty Station: The positions will be based at IITA-Malawi, Chitedze Research Station, Lilongwe.
