Project Description:
Land O'Lakes International Development is seeking candidates for a Finance Manager position for a large, anticipated USAID agriculture development project in Malawi. The projected five-year contract contract will be designed to strengthen the competitiveness of the soy and groundnut value chains, improve the nutritional status of women and children, and build the capacity of Malawian agriculture and nutrition small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The project will encourage value chain innovations that increase productivity and help farmers in Malawi’s south central region earn higher incomes.
Position Summary and Primary Responsibilities:
Based in Lilongwe, Malawi, the finance manager will provide advanced accounting and financial oversight to the program and finance staff in the country office. This position assists and supports the Chief of Party in all accounting and financial reporting activities, while providing support to the program team surrounding any and all financial and administrative issues. S/he will ensure the accurate tracking and recording of project expenditures and financial reports. S/he will guide and assist accountants and other program staff to prepare, revise and monitor budgets for their ongoing activities. S/he will work with the headquarters-based staff to ensure timely responses to all finance concerns and to review expenditures relating to all accounting documents for accuracy and consistency with Land O’Lakes financial and operational policies, donor regulations and program guidelines. S/he will manage project advances to staff and maintain a strong internal control environment to safeguard assets. S/he will reconcile and report on all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis and assist management in limiting financial risk. In program start-up, s/he will assist in the implementation and maintenance of the accounting system and ensure that all administrative procedures are clearly defined and enforced. S/he will maintain all HR files, administer benefits and manage all human resources for the Malawi-based program staff. S/he will ensure proper support and documentation exists to support program expenses and to support both internal and external auditing processes.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- University degree in Accounting or other relevant Business Degree and ACCA/CPA qualifications;
- 8-10 years’ experience in an accounting function;
- 3-5 years’ experience in a senior accounting role, including experience in managing, reconciling and re-aligning budgets for large donor-funded program;
- Experience managing staff;
- Knowledge of local labor and tax laws and reporting procedures;
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills in English;
- Advanced knowledge of computers and MS Excel;
- Detail oriented, proactive and flexible; and
- Honest, hard-working team-player capable of working with minimal supervision and able to meet deadlines.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience with the Deltek Cost Point Accounting system; and
- Experience on a USAID-funded program.
