Northwestern University is looking to hire a full-timeResearch Assistant to begin in August or September of 2013. This is a one-year position that involves both field-based support for data collection in Malawi and office-based (in Evanston, IL) assistance with empirical analysis of randomized evaluations and non-randomized projects within development economics, under Professor Lori Beaman. The Research Assistant will be based in Malawi from September to December and in Evanston, IL afterwards. The primary topics of the projects are agriculture technology adoption and social networks.
The Research Assistant will perform a variety of tasks including but not limited to:
- Providing technical support and coordination assistance to data collection in Malawi
- Managing data and assisting in econometric and network analysis
- Editing policy reports and academic paper drafts
Qualifications and Experience:
- A Bachelor's degree in economics or another quantitative major is required.
- Candidates should have an interest in applying to a quantitative Ph.D. program (preferably in economics) and in pursuing a research career.
- Strong programming skill in Stata is required; experience with R is a plus.
- A strong quantitative background is required.
- Experience as a research assistant is a plus.
- Excellent grades are required.
The job is ideal for someone with an enthusiasm for empirical research, the ability and interest to learn new skills, and a willingness to take initiative as a project develops.
