Summary:International Relief and Development seeks a Gender Expert to provide strategic development and implementation of a gender program on an upcoming Feed the Future agribusiness proposal in Southern Africa. This program will focus on lessening the gender gap.
Essential Job Functions:
- Collaborate with all local stakeholders and implementing partners to ensure that all activities address gender;
- Supervise technical staff;
- Work closely with the COP and DCOP on setting program priorities and directions based on the donor's requirements for gender in the project;
- Work with M&E staff to design and implement a plan to track data and results related to gender within USAID's M&E requirements;
- Provide technical leadership to include gender in all aspects of the project in the development of the project strategic plan, work plan, and program monitoring;
- Promote gender access and equality through the identification of outreach activities and cultivation of gender-driven community dialogue appropriate to the socio-cultural context;
- Ensure that gender outreach meets the criteria identified by USAID;
- Provide gender input into rapid start up activities as needed;
- Monitor and prepare donor reports and project reports on program implementation and progress;
- Conduct regular reporting to the COP/DCOP and program and technical staff of successes, challenges, and lessons learned in implementation related to areas of technical expertise;
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Experience:
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field;
- Minimum 7 years of professional experience designing, implementing, and assessing agricultural and rural projects with a gender perspective;
- 5 years of experience implementing agribusiness development programs from a gender perspective;
- Proven track-record of successful program design and implementation in societies with low gender and development indicators;
- Demonstrated experience developing/designing gender-related programming;
- Experience in Southern Africa, international development programs;
- Strong oral and written communication, presentation, and organizational skills in English;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office;
- Fluency in English and Portuguese;
- Demonstrated experience in USAID or other USG funded projects;
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Extensive (5 or more years) experience in Southern Africa, in international development programs;
- Extensive (5 or more years) experience in programs that address gender issues in Mozambique . Success Factors:

- An ability to work successfully in remote and challenging settings with limited resources.
