The African Union was establishedas a unique Pan African continental body. It is charged with the responsibilityof spearheading Africa’s rapid integration and sustainable development bypromoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples ofAfrica and African States; as well as developing a new world wide partnership. Its Headquarters is located at AddisAbaba, capital city of Ethiopia.
In seeking to achieve theseobjectives, the African Union intends to strengthen its human resource byfilling in all its vacant posts.

1. MajorDuties and Responsibilities:
The AU Medical Services isan outpatient polyclinic undergoing gradual transformation in to a modernoutpatient-inpatient facility. It provides preventive and curative services tothe AU Staff, their eligible dependents, African Diplomats accredited toEthiopia and the AU, AU Consultants and Delegates to AU meetings. It alsoadministers the Medical Assistance Plan and Medical Insurance within the AUCommission and Regional Offices.
A senior and highly skilled PHYSICIAN(A specialist in Internal Medicine) is targeted to fill this position.
Underthe direct supervision of the Director, the Physician will be responsible forthe following:
I. To provide daily general and specialized medicalconsultations, diagnosis and treatment to the African UnionCommission staff members, staff members of the African and other approvedDiplomatic corps based in Addis Ababa, their eligible dependents and Delegatesto AU Meetings.
II. Provideemergency medical care and arrange their transfer to other health facilities.
III. Referstaff members and their dependents when necessary to appropriate medicalspecialists locally and followup on their management.
IV. To carryout ward rounds regularly on all admitted adult patients and provide high levelinput into their management.
V. Toparticipate in the development and delivery of health promotion, diseaseprevention and occupational Health and safety programs of the Directorate(including HIV and AIDS in the workplace).
VI. Toactively participate in the AU Medical Board in determining the necessity formedical evacuations, prepare the clinical information and present same to theMedical Board for clearance. Play an active role in the management of theevacuation process, monitor the progress of the evacuees and facilitate theirreturn.
VII. Toparticipate and provide expertise in medical coverage for AU Summits, AU FieldMissions and outreach to AU Regional Offices.
VIII. Participatein continuing medical education programs for Medical staff.
IX. Evaluateemployee performance, and recommend disciplinary action. May instruct internsand other medical personnel on matters pertaining to Clinical Services.
X. Toparticipate fully in the development of budget proposal, its implementation,monitoring and evaluation for the Unit.
XI. Torepresent the Head of Division Clinical Services to various meetings whenneeded.
XII. Toperform any other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
2. Educational Qualifications and Work ExperienceRequired:
Ø Must have MD degreeor MBBS degree, with a Master Degree in InternalMedicine.
Ø A documentedqualification in endocrinology and metabolic diseases, cardiovascular diseases,rheumatology, or gastroenterology will be an added advantage; any other clinicalfield related to internal medicine will be considered.
Ø At least eight (8)years of experience in clinical practice within a government National hospital,private practice, university teaching hospital or international organization asunit, team, section, or department head has an added advantage.
3. Other Relevant Skills:
Ø Must be computerliterate,
Ø Hands on experience/exposure to telemedicine, ultrasound, and modern imaging techniques.
Ø Ability tocommunicate scientific information as evidenced by scientific / otherpublications.
Ø Excellentinterpersonal skills, ability to organize and motivate others, and work in amulticultural environment,
Ø Must have goodcommunication skills with patients, colleagues and the clients.
Ø Excellent draftingand reporting skills;
4. LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT:
Proficiency in one of the African Union workinglanguages. Knowledge of one or several other working languages would be anadded advantage.
5. AGE REQUIREMENT:
Candidates must preferably be between 35 and 50years old.
6. TENURE OF APPOINTMENT:
The appointment will be made on afixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of with the first twelvemonths will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contractwill be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performanceand deliverables.

8.Remuneration::Indicative basic salary ofUS$40,413.00 per annum plus other relatedentitlements e.g. Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance 14,414.40perineum), education allowance(75% of tuition and other education related expenses for every eligibledependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc forinternationally recruited staff of the Commission.
