Current Situation
  • Private Sector Fundraising service sits in UNHCR¿s Division of External Relations and is responsible for raising resources from corporations, foundations and High Net Worth Individuals.
  • Leadership Giving section actively engages in working to establish long-term private partnerships and strengthen existing relations that will result in funding for the immediate and long-term goals of UNHCR.
  • The team collaborates within the wider PSFR team and at all levels of the agency providing private sector fundraising expertise.
  • The team works in close collaboration with UNHCR representatives and National Fundraising Partners in the PSFR Networks as well as Corporate leaders, Foundations Directors and influential individuals.
  • The team is responsible for delivering multimillion dollar private sector partners and managing a portfolio of $95 million per annum.
  • Ambitious growth plans are in place for Leadership Giving.
  • The section, currently based in London, will be relocated to Copenhagen, in the framework of the growing UN City, by the end of 2014.
Desirable Attributes
  • Experience in developing multi-country proposal and grant writing.
  • Knowledge of standard case for support and reporting formats and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of UNHCR interventions / programming is a plus.
  • Knowledge of field operations, training/learning activities in the proposal writing area.

Job Description
Duties and Qualifications
PSFR Officer (Proposal/Reports Writing, Network Support, LG)
ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
Direct supervision will be exercised by the Senior PSFR Officer (Network Support, LG), who will provide overall guidance and advice. The position will sit within the framework of the LG Donor Services Unit. The incumbent will also work in close coordination with the New Business, Account Management and Private Philanthropy teams of Leadership Giving on tasks related to research and content-based products. In general, s/he will be expected to work independently, with minimal supervision.
The incumbent will keep frequent contact with PSFR staff at various levels in the office and occasionally with staff at the same level in other duty stations and/or Headquarters, with local Representatives, external partners, and expert research providers on subject matters which may be of importance to LG and the Organization. The incumbent may supervise associate and support staff.
FUNCTIONAL STATEMENT.
Accountability
  • Master fundraising proposals and reports are timely produced and regularly updated.
  • Specific inputs or tailored content-based fundraising documents are produced according to donors' needs and requests.
Responsibility
  • Research and write private sector donors proposals and reports for support on key areas of UNHCR's work that matches donor's interests.
  • Research and write private sector donor proposals and reports to respond to refugee emergencies as they arise.
  • Compile budgets from detailed and complex financial information for use by the LG network.
  • Contribute to the writing of a portfolio of supporting materials for fundraisers across the LG.
  • Write tailored fundraising packs on themes specifically requested from the LG network.
  • Respond to the needs of fundraisers working in different markets with a range of donors and giving preferences.
  • Review and consolidate donor reporting needs from across the fundraising network in conjunction with PSFR (including identifying the programme results, stories, photographs and interviews needed).
  • Liaise with relevant departments in the HQs and field offices working on donor-supported areas of programme;
  • Design appropriate training or orientation programmes to increase the field staff's understanding of donor needs in terms of proposals and reporting and their capacity to meet these needs.
  • Support field staff in designing easy to use, non-intrusive systems for tracking progress and results on PSFR-funded programmes.
  • To support fundraising teams and individuals in Branch Offices and National Fundraising Partners to develop and manage proposals and reports.
  • To research and develop good knowledge of UNHCR's programmes that will appeal to donors.
  • To provide support to the broader Donor Services Team as necessary.
Authority
  • Draft funding submissions, reports and information papers for donors concerning specific issues and/or operations.
  • Draft reports on the funding situation concerning specific issues and/or operations.
  • As appropriate, represent PSFR in internal/external meetings.
  • Conduct training sessions and deliver presentations.
ESSENTIAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • University degree in any of the following: Social Sciences, Economics, Public Administration, International Relations, Business Administration, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related discipline.
  • Excellent knowledge of English (written/oral/comprehension).
  • Minimum 8 years (6 years with Advanced University degree) of relevant work experience in proposal/reports writing/data gathering/monitoring and evaluation settings.
  • Knowledge of private sector donor requirements regarding reporting on results.
  • Good capacity to understand and interpret complex data programme results and present findings to private sector donors in an effective and coherent way.
  • Ability to design fit for purpose, easy to use monitoring and data gathering tools that will enable field staff to gather qualitative & quantitative data relevant to the needs of private sector donors.
  • Experience of working with field teams in person and remotely and devising and delivering training interventions to help raise reporting capacity.
