Agribusiness and Marketing Coordinator
The Agribusiness and Marketing Coordinator (EDMC) will be the projects lead in increasing and farmer linkages to markets to increase income, Included in this are agribusiness components of livelihoods and irrigation schemes (linking farmers to markets); monitoring and mentoring the development of natural resource based enterprise development, The EDMC will work in close collaboration with VSL promoters to ensure that VSL clients are engaging in viable business options, S/he shall work at project level across both districts of Balaka and Dedza, S/he will provide marketing advice to farmers on choice of crops, training field staff and general marketing support to farmers and producer groups, including collective marketing, Position will be based in Balaka with frequent travel to Dedza
Leading and planning on project activities aimed at increasing farmer access to markets, Support and organize farmer groups and enterprising farmers to input suppliers, produce buyers, microfinance institutions and other service providers such as micro-insurance, Through innovative means, ensure that farmers have access to marketing information in a timely fashion, Researching and advising all activities pertaining to production and marketing of agricultural produce, Planning and facilitating the information and registration of farmer associations, cooperatives and bulking groups, Facilitating value chain analysis of different crops and producing ‘business cases’ and subsequently advising farmers to inform their choices, Identifying potential value addition (processing) initiatives for various agricultural commodities and other Natural Resources, Facilitate farmer participation in annual agricultural fairs as a way of linking farmers to markets,
Designing and delivering high quality capacity development programmes amongst farmers and other relevant beneficiary groups on basic business skills, Including may be: marketing; record keeping, basic accounting and bookkeeping; budgeting, gross margin analysis, farm business plan development; cash flow and profit and loss accounts preparations etc, In partnership with CUMO, advise farmer groups to also establish or participate in VSL groups in such manner that both interventions are synergistic in benefit to the farmer, Support the development of marketing system for the fuel efficient stoves, micro solar products and other products produced by various entrepreneurs within DISCOVER and surrounding areas, Participating in development of project work pans, budgets and new project proposals, Compiling project workplans and progress reports, contributing to donor reports and proposals, Networking with the business community, donors, partners, govt
officials and other relevant parties as requested/required, Any other duties and roles as advised by the mine manager from time to time

Bachelors degree in a relevant field such as agriculture/Agribusiness, Marketing, Business/Commerce from a recognised University, 2 or more yrs in doing similar role, be it in NGO, private or public sector, Direct experience and advanced competencies in 2 or more of the major focuses of the role as described above, Should be a self-starter and be able to demonstrate entrepreneurial capacity, Fluency in spoken and written English and Chichewa
