Search for Common Ground (SFCG) is an international non-profit organization that promotes peaceful resolution of conflict. With headquarters in Washington, DC and a European office in Brussels, Belgium, SFCG’s mission is to transform how individuals, organizations, and governments deal with conflict - away from adversarial approaches and toward cooperative solutions. SFCG seeks to help conflicting parties understand their differences and act on their commonalities. With a total of approximately 500 staff worldwide, SFCG implements projects in 33 countries, including in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States. Summary:
The Communications Department at Search for Common Ground is seeking a part-time or full-time intern to assist with web content and communications. The Web Content Intern will report to the Communications Department and assist in a variety of online marketing, social media and communications projects, working with our field offices in 33 countries around the world. Through hands-on training, the Web Content Intern will learn strategy and tactics for web content and communication that can be broadly applied to the nonprofit sector and marketing in general. The scope of the internship will be tailored to the intern’s strengths and experience, building on the individual’s skills. This is an unpaid internship with the option of earning college credit.
Responsibilities:
• Assisting in drafting and editing newsletters, website content and other written materials
• Assisting in maintaining a liaison between offices abroad
• Assisting in upkeep of SFCG’s media sites
• Contributing to the overall branding, messaging, and other marketing and communications strategies of the organization, enhancing the online presence and overall image and awareness of SFCG
• Assisting in the web posting and updating process by guiding and assisting content contributors in writing submissions for creating new web pages
• Assisting with staff training to facilitate content input/updates on their end
• Research best SEO practices and words
As internship descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
• To currently be acquiring a degree or graduate degree in journalism, communications, Creative Writing, English or other writing related degree.
• Experience in editing, proofreading, or copywriting
• Self-starter; organized; detail-oriented
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
• Experience with browser-based email blast services are a plus, but not mandatory (ex: Constant Contact, Salsa, etc.)
• Ability to work creatively and have fun!
• Experience with graphics, illustration, video, or music is a plus, but not required
