Architect,Lilongwe, Malawi

Architect, Type of Contract: Consultant under Special Service Agreement (SSA), Lilongwe, Malawi, 6 months (one month initially), UNFPA Malawi.

Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Project manager/or Representative or her designate, in collaboration with UNFPA GEWE Team, individual NON State actors implementing the GEWE Project, and District Health Officers, District Social Welfare Officers and Local Development Committees, assess the works to be undertaken and provide expert advice on how best to undertake the project, Design a cost effective model One Stop Centre to be set up at community level, Prepare and cost Bill of Quantities for the works to be undertaken, In liaison with NSAs (IPs) support the identification of appropriate man power and required resources to successfully undertake the works, Collect and provide necessary information and assist in planning, organising and developing all aspects of the renovation component of the project, Provide professional service in preparation of plans and detailed drawings, preparation of bills of quantities, estimates and tender
 documents, adjudication of bids, supervision and certification of works and follow up projects to satisfactory conclusion, Supervise the work once it commences including other Local Development initiatives underway, Assist the Project Manger to evaluate GEWE projects applications and ensure construction specification correspond to drawings, assist in monitoring of all GEWE Renovation projects and any other construction specification correspond to drawings, Assist in monitoring of all GWE Renovation projects and any other construction project under the Gender equality for Local development initiative, Provide certification of work done on the sites and advice on appropriate payments due  

Activities will includes designing of a model and oversee implementation in responding to the needs of Non State actors in specified district in Malawi 

Under the overall guidance of the UNFPA Representative and under the direct supervision of the Deputy Representative and in Collaboration with the project team, the Consultant will be required to work as a member of UNFPA team for the successful implementation of all community OSCs and other community structures works in project sites

Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, High levels of creativity, Imagination and vision, A keen interests in the building environment and the dedication to see projects to their conclusion, Willingness to work long hours under time and budget pressure, Excellent design and drafting skills and proficiency with computer aided design, Strong mathematical skills, A keen eye for the detail of specific tasks, combined with an understanding of how such specifics fit in with the project as a whole, Organisational, project management an deplaning skills, including the ability to juggle multiple tasks, An analytical mind with excellent problem solving ability, Leadership skills as well as the ability to work well within a team of other professionals 

Masters Degree or Bachelor in Architecture, Demonstrated experience on working on or supervising building construction or rehabilitation works, Excellent interpersonal a, organisational and communication skills, personal commitment, efficiency, flexibility, Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from different cultures and professional backgrounds, Good knowledge of the regions and willing to travel throughout the country, Proven experience with UN or International NGOs would be an asset, Excellent writing and orals skills in English, knowledge of the national language is an asset, knowledge of practical use of computer , Candidates are expected to be proficient in current Office software applications (MS Excel, Word, Power Point etc) Highly proficient in Auto cad, MS Outlook required, familiarity with Photoshop, Revit, and other programs preferred but not required
