As a federal enterprise, the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarberit (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its objective in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development.  GIZ operates in more than 130 counties around the globe.  In Malawi GIZ has been working for more than 30 yrs.  Malawi is a priority for German international cooperation and currently focuses on three priority areas: education, health and private sector development in rural areas.  In addition to our work on these areas, we also work on public financial and economic management and social protection.
 
Under the supervision of the Director of Administration and finance, s/he will work closely with all the Programmes to execute all financial processes in accordance with the requirements of GIZ
 
Efficient execution of all financial processes in the office according to the rules and regulations of the GIZ, Inflow and outflow of money from the bank, Financial Planning, Monitoring and accounting for all GIZ projects, Efficiently dealing with queries about issues in his/her section, Performing tasks in compliance with GIZ’s Orientation and Rules (O +R), Correctly providing service within the team in accordance with GIZ’s requirements
 
Finance Management – is responsible for all banking matters and all bank account operations, Monitors income, expenditures and checks monthly bank reconciliations, Manage the letter of credits Quality check of all payments and bookings into Winpacs, Checks monthly journals and account balances before they are sent to Country Director/Director of administration and finance and to GIZ HQ, Monitors account payables/receivables and monthly feedback to the Project Heads, Arranges and facilitates the monthly payments – local and foreign currency related, Conducts petty cash checks
 
Internal Control – Strengthens and manages internal control system based on GIZ’s internal control manual, Provides advice and guidelines in financial matters to projects and also based on the results of IC guidelines, Ensures that all audit recommendations are followed up and action taken
 
General services for GIZ – Continually revises and improves accounting procedures internally as well as for projects, Checks that fuel levels for projects are claimed on monthly basis, Reviews the classification of al vouchers/receipts according to completeness and to cost centres/cost category etc, Checks that constant communication on error sheets and advisory services concerning projects are followed up, Checks office inventory records, Online banking checking
 
Performs other duties and tasks at the request of management
 
Master Degree in business Administration and ACCA, At least 10 yrs professional experience in a comparable position with management experience, Experience in an auditing position (internal audit department or chartered accountant) would be an asset
 
Supervisory experience of  team of at least 5 staff members,  Experience with an international working environment, is capable of working with an inter-cultural environment, Computer skills with knowledge in accounting packages such as Winpacs, High standards of confidentiality and loyalty, Willingness to up skill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
