Laboratory Technician (Food Chemistry)

Reporting to: Scientific Officer (Food Chemistry)
Job purpose: To provide technical support services
Preparation of standardization an laboratory reagent and standards solutions, Analysis of assorted samples by classical methods such as Titrimetry, Gravimetry, and Colorimetry as well as instrumental methods such as Flame, spectroscopy, Thin Layer Chromatography, Atomic Absorption Spectrophometer, UV/visible Spectrophometre, Fibretech system and Camag TLC Scanner II, Undertaking calibration checks for instruments and arranging for their calibration as well as preventative or corrective maintenance as appropriate, Implementation of ISO17025 quality management system and industrial auditing activities, Supervision of laboratory personnel under section of responsibility and ensuring that good laboratory practices (GLP) including safety measures are in place and practice, Organising disposal of used media and obsolete samples from the laboratory, Assisting with the compiling of budgets, workplans and quarterly progress reports, Participating in IRTACU and ISO17025 laboratory quality management system activities, Any other duties as may be assigned by Scientific Officer (Food Chemistry) or higher authorities from time to time
Should have a Diploma in Laboratory Technology and at least a minimum of 2 yrs experience in a busy laboratory environment.
