LEGAL OFFICER (ADMINISTRATIVE JUSTICE)

2. Majorduties and responsibilities:
Assistthe Legal Counsel in the performance of the following duties:
- Representthe AU in proceedings before the AU Administrative Tribunal;
- Reviewapplications and petitions submitted to the Administrative Tribunal, assess evidenceand draft written submissions/responses;
- Respondto court cases filed against the Union and participate in proceedings beforethe African Court of Justice and Human and People’s Rights (‘The Court’);
- Research,advise and provide assistance on any matter, substantive or procedural,relatingto the Administrative Tribunal or the Court that has been referred to theOffice of the Legal Counsel;
- Research and advise on the implications for theCommission of any proposedamendments as well as developments inthe theories and practices of court administration;
- Liaise with and respond to inquiries from Judgesof the Administrative Tribunal and liaise with external Counsel;
- Researchon issues of international law and justice with a focus on internationaladministrative law and proffer relevant opinion on matters sought by the Commission;
- Participatein meetings of relevant legal nature on behalf of the Office of the LegalCounsel; and
- Performany other relevant functions as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
3. Qualificationsand Experience Required
AUniversity Degree in lawwith emphasis in the area of Administrative or Labour Law or equivalent qualification. Candidatesmust also have obtained a license to practice law in any Member State. Higherqualification will be an add advantage.
Aminimum of five years of professional progressively responsible experience inlaw with emphasis in Administrativeor LabourLaw isrequired. Candidatesmust also have at least 3 years of court practice.
5. Otherrelevant skills
· Candidatesmust exhibit capacity to work under pressure in a multicultural environment;
· Excellentknowledge of the workings of international organizations;
· Gooddrafting skills;
· Computerliteracy.
6. Languagerequirement
Candidates must beproficient in either English or French and possess a working knowledge of theother.
The appointment will be made on afixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of which the first twelvemonths will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract shallbe for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance.

10. Remuneration
Indicative basic salary of US$ 29,287.00 per annum plus other relatedentitlements e.g. Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance14,414.40 perineum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other educationrelated expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of theCommission.
