Open Arms Infant Home is a well established non-profit organisation committed to the care of orphaned and vulnerable children in Malawi, We have been registered here for 20 yrs with the appropriate ministries and Departments, Open Arms Malawi was subsequently registered in the UK with the Charities Commission of England and Wales,, We have close links with the English Board of Trustees, where the majority of our operational funding is sourced
Residential care is provided at the 2 main Home sin Blantyre and Mangochi for up to 80 children who are later reintegrated and supported within the ir home communities, Our reintegration policy has long been viewed as one of our strengths, Over the last 10 yrs 7 Nursery Schools/Feeding Stations have been created by Open Arms, These feed and educate up to 500 children per day in the Blantyre and Mangochi Districts, Open Arms is actively involved in the running of a community Primary School in Chigumula
For those children who have no alternative, 5 individual foster homes within the medium density areas of Blantyre City accommodate a further 40 o four children and their foster siblings, Management of the educational opportunities and development potential of each child is becoming a very important part of Open Arms’ services, hence a background in education would be an advantage for the successful cnaidate
Will be expected to offer leadership and implement best practice for child care within a large organisation in diverse locations
Senior management experience of 10 yrs in a related field, Open Arms currently has one hundred employees, Experience of residential institutions and pastoral care highly desirable, Fundraising experience with a proven track record highly desirable, Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including Boards of Trustees in Malawi and overseas, Govt Departs and major donors, To initiate and strengthen partnerships with similar institutions in Malawi, International networking experience with contacts in UK an added advantage
Relevant degree from a recognised university, with a PGCE an advantage, Child Protection training, Qualification in Youth Leadership an advantage, Police clearance/authorisation to work with children
