The University Finance Officer heads Finance Dept at the Central Office but s/he also an overseer of all College Finance Offices in the constituent colleges of the University of Malawi. The Finance Officer as an Advisor to the Vice-Chancellor, the University Registrar and Principals on matters concerning financial policy in the University of Malawi
An AMBA/MA majoring in Financial Accounting and Management, professional qualification such as ACCA/CIMA, demonstrate working knowledge of ICT and accounting packages,

Advising the Vice-Chancellor and the University Registrar on long-term investments and investment strategy, Registrar on long-term investments and investment strategy, Assisting the Vice Chancellor and the University Registrar in resource mobilization for University of Malawi, Initiating, identifying and negotiating transactions relating to monetary investments, Ensuring the efficient and effective conduct of the University’s financial management to maximize the return on its assets, Leading in annual tripartite financial (budget) negotiations among the govt (Treasury), Ministry of Education and the University, Coordinating the University’s budgeting process at both College and University wide level in liaison with College Finance Offices, Consolidating the University budget and statutory accounts, from individual college budgets and accounts, respectively, Developing and integrating financial systems so that data provided is relevant, timely and accurate to budget holders and University Committees, Developing manual and guidelines for accounting facilitating procurement standards, tenders and bidding, stores and inventories for use by accounting personnel, Serving as Secretary to the Finance Committee and advise Council on matters of financial policy and administration, Ensuring that colleges are staffed with qualified and experienced financial managers by advising the office of the University Registrar on how it should recruit and deploy finical managers, Consulting with the University Registrar on matters of University Internal Audit, essential audit was well as consulting College Principals in the exercise of ensuring that there is financial prudence in the College of University of Malawi, Preparing for annual audit and take le din assisting management in its response to letters from auditors and management, Coordinating tendering procedures in liaison with the Procurement Committee chaired by the University Registrar office, Taking part in strategic planning exercise of the University and also ensure the implementation of the strategic plan, Accounting to Council the financial performance of the University, Participating in the process and meetings of IPC at the University Office participating in senior leadership committees of the University, Providing logistical support to the University of Malawi Trust Fund, providing leadership to all Finance Department of eth university of Malawi, managing the investments portfolios on short-term funds, medium term and long-term,
