CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER , Electricity Supply Corporations of Malawi Limited

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacant post of chief operations officer at the Electricity Supply Corporations of Malawi Limited ( ESCOM) 
THE ORGANIZATION 
ESCOM is a statutory corporation incorporated under the companies Act of the laws of Malawi. its core business is to generate, transmit and distribute electricity in Malawi. 
GENERAL DISCRIPTION OF THE JOB 
The Chief Operations Officer will to the Chief Executive Officer and will support the work of the company by focusing on the efficient optimization of day to day operations in the corporation 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 
At the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief operations Officer shall among others, be responsible for the following; 
1. Optimizing the allocation and utilization of limited resources in the most productive areas with the aim of creating maximum value for the corporation's shareholders and stake holders. 
2. Coordinating the development and implementation of the corporation’s integrated strategic plan(ISP) with particular attention to the efficient operational and financial performance of the organization 
3. Ensuring quality assurance of the corporations as pertains to the delivery of electricity to customers and for all other customers services 
4. Implementing appropriate rewards/recognition program; and monitoring and coaching staff in corrective practices and align technical Divisional Heads to the corporation’s goal and aspirations and to identify good practice 
5. Establishing, consolidating and monitoring divisional performance and reporting systems to meet the strategic objectives in the ISP and regulatory report progress and quarterly, semi-annually and annually to Executive management 
6. Maintaining and monitoring staff and staffing levels in he technical divisions, linking knowledge-skills-attributes (KSA) to performance, expectation and motivations to fulfil organizational requirements 
7. Driving staff performance through the organizational performance management systems 
8. Driving performance measures through the organization’s key performance indicators (KPI) including an effective balance of efficiency and effectiveness for the achievements of high level KPI’s 
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS, KEY COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCES 
The ideal candidate should have a minimum qualification of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and a Masters degree in Engineering, Management, Finance or Economics, with a proven track records of managing strategic institutions of the size and complexity of ESCOM. Those with experience in power ( or electricity) utility will have an added advantage 
The ideal candidate for the position must 
• Have at least 10 years post qualification experience at top management level in a reputable institution 
• Have good leadership and team building skills 
• Be decisive, self motivated, assertive, and natural teems builder with excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
• Be of high integrity, honesty and excellent negotiating skills 
 
APPOINTMENT AND REMUNERATION 
The successful candidate shall be offered a negotiable performance related contract for a period of three (3) years, with an attractive salary and benefits commensurate with seniority of the position and qualification of the candidate
