In this role you will be providing guidance to GE Transportation's customer on maintenance and troubleshooting of locomotives. Job is based in Beira, Mozambique.
The Lead Technical Specialistt develops practical and innovative ways to identify and meet goals. Is responsible for work that is less defined in scope and has the understanding and experience to execute business objectives. This role has the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.


  • Provide technical expertise to railroad employees and management as well as GE employees, including troubleshooting, material handling, tooling, safety procedures, and contract requirement .

  • Provide training / mentorship on locomotive maintenance and troubleshooting to customer and GE employees. 

  • Coordinate and provide instruction on key locomotive maintenance/repair/field modification programs and procedures. 

  • Provide clear communication to customer employees, customer management and GE management on work to be performed, equipment status, productivity, and process improvements and liaison with other departments as necessary.

  • Work with customer employees and management to promote, maintain, and drive continuous improvement in safe work practices while monitoring productivity, quality assurance, and adherence to contract requirements. 

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Environment, Health and Safety regulations, work practices and industry / site specific work rules. 

  • Make risk assessments balancing customer requests with GE requirements. 

  • Establish locomotive maintenance and repair plan for labor, material, and logistics. 

  • Work with various software systems to manage material, labor plans, and other systemic requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma/GED with at least 4 years of operations or military experience, or Associate’s degree in technical discipline with at least 2 years professional work experience).

  • At least 3 additional years of operations or engineering experience.

  • Knowledge of Portuguese language at a fluent level (both written and spoken).

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Mozambique.


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical).

  • Previous experience in maintenance and repair of heavy equipment (locomotives, diesel engines, aircraft, etc).

  • Proficiency in MS office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point).

  • Ability to read drawings and electric schemes.

  • Knowledge of English language at least at intermediate level (both written and spoken). 

  • Willingness to work various shifts various days.

  • Willingness to work in an industrial shop (railroad depot) environment.
