Overview/Responsibilities:

FHI 360 serves more than 60 countries, all 50 U.S. states and all U.S. territories.We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Deputy Chief of Party, Programming  in Lilongwe, Malawi. 
Additional Responsibilities:
The DCOP must be experienced in managing and implementing fisheries, biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation and will provide a key leadership role, supporting both the technical direction of the program and overseeing programmatic operations.   
  • Collaborate with Chief of Party to provide leadership to the program, ensure strategic program direction, and provide high quality technical assistance.
  • Supervise technical team leaders to ensure high quality and comprehensive technical programming;
  • Mobilize institutional and project resources, tools, best practices, innovations, technology to deliver a synergistic, evidence based program.
  • Liaise with key partners and stakeholders to meet program objectives and deliver results.
  • Collaborate with technical staff to ensure program activities are designed and implemented according to industry best practices while being tailored to the local context.
  • Work closely the team to develop annual workplans, reports and PMP.
  • Provide leadership to ensure the development of timely, high quality and regulation compliant reporting per FHI 360 and donor guidelines. 
Qualifications:
  • A Master’s degree or higher in one of the following fields: environmental science or management, natural resource management, fisheries, conservation, natural science, or other relevant international development field with bias towards climate change adaptation.
  • At least 10 years of demonstrated technical expertise, with substantial developing country context experience preferably in the Sub-Saharan Africa region, in a combination of the following technical areas: climate change adaptation, conservation, fisheries, natural resource management, and livelihoods.
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated excellence in a management position, preferably in an international development context, including direct supervision of professional and support staff, quality evaluation of staff performance and deliverables, and contract/grant management.
  •  Experience supervising and leading teams and monitoring staff performance.
  •  Experience integrating gender into development programming is preferred.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills required.
  •  Demonstrated experience in overseeing projects or components of projects which include climate change adaptation components.
  •  Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and ability to motivate staff to be accountable for project outcomes.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and strong track record in meeting deliverables and deadlines and ability to provide oversight of financial and operational aspects of projects.
  • Experience interacting with government agencies, host‐country government partners and counterparts, and international donor agencies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.
