Organizational Setting and Reporting
The Policy, Planning and Application Branch internship is for three months with an opportunity for extension, depending on the needs of the office. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned. Part-time internships could be considered.
Responsibilities
The Peacebuilding Support Office would like to recruit an intern to support the monitoring, collection, research and analysis of information related to lessons learned and impact on the ground in selected UN peacebuilding interventions. The intern will report to policy staff in the branch. Duties may include, but are not limited to: Analysis and evaluation of reporting that assess progress in various peacebuilding areas; Support collection and research of information on lessons learned in peacebuilding; Conduct ad hoc analyses on emerging country-specific or thematic issues; Undertake other tasks as requested. The branch strives to offer interns an opportunity to work independently with substantive issues while also assisting colleagues in the day-to-day operations of the office.

Education
Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher); or if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least four years of fulltime studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree, preferably in Conflict and Peace Studies, International Development, Development Economics, Political Science, International Relations or related fields.
Be computer literate in standard software applications; have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Languages
Fluency in English, (both oral and written) is required; Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
