WorldFish has an opening for a Post-Doctoral Scientist based in Penang, Malaysia.
Key Responsibilities
- To develop new approaches for characterization of aquaculture systems and value chains according to their responsiveness to the food and nutritional requirements of poor consumers.
- To design and implement research on aquaculture production systems and value chains that better respond to the food and nutritional requirements of poor consumers.
- To improve understanding of business models for aquaculture systems and value chains that respond to food and nutritional requirements and demand of poor consumers.
- To support assessments of consumption of fish, fish products and other animal source foods, disaggregated by gender, age and socioeconomic status.
- To provide support to national research teams in Bangladesh, Zambia and other WorldFish program countries to design implement and deliver high quality science.
- To develop participatory tools and evidence based guidelines, policy briefs and other science-based communication products on how to improve fish production, consumption and nutrition linkages for wide application.
Skill Requirements
Essential
- Ph.D. in related field (natural, social or economic sciences)
- 3 years of research experience
- Strong analytical and writing skills
- Excellent knowledge and technical skills in Aquaculture and/or Agriculture systems, and demonstrated ability to perform critical thinking on research issues
- Excellent writing skills
- Strong project management skills
- Knowledge of poverty and socio-economic issues related to aquaculture development
- Experience in synthesizing results from disparate studies and publishing research findings
- Ability to work in developing countries

- Publications and resource mobilization track record
- Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience in supervising graduate students
