Project Coordinator – 1 post – College of Medicine – Malaria Alert centre (MAC)
The malaria Alert Centre (MAC) requires the services of staff to work on UNICEF funded Expanded Program on Immunisation (EPI) program activities in order to build capacity in immunisation in low EPI performing districts in Malawi, MAC is a research institution under the College of Medicine focused on conducting operational research studies, monitoring and evaluation, building capacity of health workers including training for malaria prevention and control activities and communicable diseases in Malawi
To coordinate, implement and successfully complete the UNICEF funded health worker capacity building in EPI project
This post is tenable in Blantyre for the initial period of 10 months with field travels across the country, renewals are possible
Develop a detailed implementation plan based on the project requirements and deliverables, Plan, organise and coordinate all the preparatory, feedback sessions, trainings and workshop meetings with all relevant stakeholders, Attend, participate and provide necessary input for preparation of and during meetings with stakeholders, workshops and trainings, Assist and coordinate the development process of the curriculum and training manuals for EPI for health workers in Malawi, Plan, coordinate and monitor the training of trainers (TOTs) in data management and REC micro-planning approach for EPI for district level health works, Plan, coordinate, monitor and supervise the EPI data management trainings and micro-planning session for facility health works in districts in Malawi Facilitate and collaborate with district health teams to conduct district periodic intensified routine immunisations in hard to reach areas in selected districts, Training of health works in EPI including data management and REC approach, Assist with development of training schedules and other data collection tools for the project, Generate field activity and all required reports and presentations to be submitted to donors or used at meetings, international conferences and as institutional summary reports, Plan, order and check project supplies according to requirements in a timely manner, Assist with presentations of results whenever necessary, Design, reviewing and piloting of data collection tools (training manuals, data tools etc) for the project, Accomplish other tasks as assigned by the line manager
At least an advanced diploma in environmental health, public health, community nursing, project management or in other relevant field from a recognised institution, A first degree in a relevant discipline is preferable, Minimum of 5 yrs f(for advanced diploma) or 3 yrs (for first degree) of previous full-time working experience in project management, planning and coordinating, Extensive, recent and good knowledge of EPI services, EPI data management and WHO Reach every Child (REC) approach in Malawi
Extensive experience in working with Ministry of Health and training health works in EPI at all levels in Malawi, Previous successful involvement with and good knowledge of donor funded projects is a added advantage, Knowledge in designing, field testing study/surveys and data collection tools are required, Strong report writing skills, S/he must have ability to rite clearly and concisely and have sound quantitative skills (managing, analysing and interesting data), Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required, knowledge and experience with statistical software is an asset, Self starter, strong interpersonal and motivational skills and ability to work with very minimal supervision is required, Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
