Workshop Manager, Nchalo Depot – Unitrans Malawi Ltd
This is an exciting position in the cane haulage equipment maintenance dept based at Nchalo Sugar estate and involved the maintenance of Haulage and loading equipment and requires strong management skills
The ability to meet uptime targets of 94%, equipment reliability and efficiencies area must
Exposure to Labour Relations Management, Computer literacy – MS Excel and MS Word, SHEQ standards and requirements, Should have at least 5 yrs experience in a technical environment in fleet management, Academically the ideal candidate will be in a possession of a Diesel Mechanical qualification, technical Transportation Diploma or Degree, A transportation Certificate or Diploma would be advantageous, At least 5 yrs experience in a similar position
Ability to monitor vehicle utilisation and control of maintenance, Exposure to fabrication technologies (boiler making/welding), Extensive and in in-depth knowledge of maintenance philosophies for a varied range of automotive and materials handling equipment, specifically – Service scheduling and planning, Tooling, Cost and quality control, Budgeting and forecasting, Must be in possession of a B class driver’s licence, Possession of a class EC driver’s licence would be an added advantage, Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs, Knowledge of bulk cement discharge pumps, Able to communicate, Able to work under pressure, Deadline oriented, Good understanding of technical and financial components of the job, Must be figure oriented, Have sound IR and HR management capabilities, Self motivated and the ability to work to pre-determined goals, must have sound knowledge of safety and Health regulations
Manage the workshop team, Develop and maintain a sound relationship with operations staff and suppliers, Manage the fleet maintenance programme, Manage the budget vehicle maintenance costs to acceptable levels, Manage stores stock levels and the purchase of replacement parts and equipment, Working knowledge of maintaining a haulage fleet comprising of truck, trailers and loading equipment

Must be highly motivated, creative and innovative, must have strong interpersonal and team building skills and willing to respond constructively to direction, Must have good written and oral communication, organisational, analytical and computer skills, The ability to work under pressure and have excellent diagnostics skill with attention to detail will be an added advantage, Must have a degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 10 yrs experience in the maintenance of Bell Equipment with a thorough knowledge on engineers, transmissions, hydraulics and general heavy duty plant maintenance, Sound hands-on auto-electrical knowledge is also a requirement
