Rio Tinto's Organisational Resources Group (OR) provides a diverse range of services and support to Rio Tinto's business units globally. OR Finance is a global finance team within OR whose mission is to provide unparalleled finance and accounting, analysis, and governance and risk management support to the OR functions. OR Finance has hubs in Brisbane, Gurgaon, Montreal, Salt Lake City and Johannesburg. The role of OR Finance in supporting OR is similar to that of Product Group finance teams in supporting Product Groups.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Reporting to the Global Manager - Projects, as the Accounting Manager Johannesburg, you will manage the local legal entity including the general ledger, transactional activities, tax accounting, asset register, SARB and SARS relationship, and other day to day activities. The role is also responsible for ensuring the delivery of quality management and financial reporting, associated analysis to OR Controllers, London head office and to other stakeholders.
JOB OBJECTIVES
The OR Accounting Manager has accountability for:
- Managing the regional OR finance team (including transactional services) and ensuring effective communication between the OR management group and the regional hub
- Ensuring completion of RTMS statutory accounts; hyperion submissions and tax returns
- Ensure proper financial and accounting processes and systems are in place for all functions/BU resources hosted in Rio Tinto Management Services (Proprietary) Limited South Africa working in conjunction with the OR Controlling and Reporting group
- Ensure appropriate financial analysis is undertaken regionally and engage with regional management, the OR management team and other stakeholders to suggest opportunities for improvement in their costs or value performance
- Ensure that the OR Finance regional team work in conjunction with the Cost Planning and Recoveries team to establish and operate robust processes for recharging BU's in the region
- Provide support for the evaluation of regional specific projects and tracking benefits realisation so as to ensure that projects are delivering appropriate value to Rio Tinto
This role will provide a key point of contact for the senior management team of Organisational Resources, local Finance teams in the region and to the broader, global OR Finance team.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in Accounting / Commerce (majoring in Accounting)
- Professional Accounting Designation (CA/CIMA) essential
- 10 years business experience (post Accounting Designation)
- Knowledge of SAP advantageous
- Computer literate in MS Office Suite
- Highly proficient in English (verbal and written)
- Commitment to safe work practices
- Ability to undertake limited amounts of travel.
